could that be the interlock pin for the shifter arms in the cover
run the gas line around the front to the driver side I-6 fule pump pass side V-8 fule pump front of motor on driver side
it all depends if the motor still has the orginal valve covers on - the only big change was the heads in the early 70's there were some 50 cc...
