‘74 CJ5/6, What years have the same front bumper mounting points? I want to mount a winch bumper and wondering if some made for later yer models will work. I’m looking for. Winch plate style like the Warn bumper with the drop down section in the middle.

I believe 72-86 are all the same up front.

Mmm ... I suspect that's wrong. I believe the same painted front bumper was used from the start of the CJ-5 through 1975. The bumper changes for 1976, and the front of the frame is also different starting in 1976. The general design is the same, but the entire frame is new for 1976, and the spring width changes. The designers of the 1976 model had a free hand, and I don't think there's any reason that the frame dimensions aren't changed, other than the carry-forward of the axle and front clip. Possible that the important dimensions are the same or close enough from 1975 to 1976, but I would not assume.

Find a '76-up Jeep somewhere and measure .

I just measure my '74 and it is 27.5" from center to center (frame/bumper bolt holes).

I'd check bumper part numbers on the web, see what years use the same part number.

No need, I looked at the part numbers in the factory parts book for this morning's post. '75 and earlier is a 906781, which is a 1950 era PN. '76 up is 5355342, a new part number for that year.

Tim is correct. I have been trying to find a bumper for my 75. The majority of aftermarket companies offer for 76+ but none for the earlier models. You can find a custom shop to make one or, like me, make one yourself. Get a mounting plate for the winch you want or have and build from there.
