    Good afternoon, all -

In removing the rear brake drums from my '67 convertible, one of the drums was pretty frozen to the tapered shaft, and I ended up bending it with the drum puller I bought. Bought a new hub, new drum, and new studs to replace it with. I have a few questions about assembling the hub and drum:

On the new drum, there is a weight welded to the outside of the drum (see pic). My old drum doesn't have this weight. Does it matter where this weight is indexed with respect to the hub?

I've read that the drum and hub are pressed together, then the studs are pressed into the hub/drum assembly. I have a press (the Harbor Freight bottle jack type) that I use often, but don't really have enough room or correct fixtures to press this thing together correctly without the concern of bending new parts. What kind of shop could press this thing together for me? A machine shop?

Any and all help greatly appreciated!

I don't believe that the drum needs to be indexed in any particular position. I've had several vehicles in the past that had the balance weights on the drums and I never made any effort to orientate them in any way and never experienced balancing issues.
My 1970 Jeepster Commando originally had 10" drums and they were not swaged onto the hubs or flanges.

Here is some useful information too

I am going through this right now.
Hopefully my hubs will be waiting for me when I get home today.
    Lots of good info here,

    These guys know their stuff.
I am definitely more confident with their advice in my pocket.
What about wheel cylinders? I had a heck of a time finding rebuild kits locally.
Finally ended up buying new on amazon. Still have part #’s if you want them.

Re the wheel cylinders, apparently new ones were available. I would throw away the old and buy new. Don't rebuild.

That's the factory balance weight for that particular drum . Install it anyway. It's in it's own world.

    A 70 has 1 piece axles, so it's a different setup.
You can do this yourself with an air hammer....or a BFH if you eat your Wheaties!

Yeah... I should have mentioned that my 70 is a late production 1969 titled as a 70, it had the hood reflectors, narrow front springs, 10" brakes, Ross steering and the two piece rear axle. The axle / drums were original and were not swaged. I left the drums on for additional support when I pulled the rear hubs, but they would slide right off the lug nuts
It's possible that someone had removed them in the past before i owned it.

Yellow67, take one of your new lug studs and see if it fits freely through the holes in your replacement drums. If it does and your drums mount on the outside of the hub/flanges then I wouldn't think there would be a reason to swage the new drums /studs together.
