Get to take my Grand in for the fix the idiot recall on the shifter tomorrow morning. It is really sad that a company is having to do a recall because some users can't be bothered to make sure their vehicle is in Park before they get out of it.

Havent done 1 yet since ive been on a 4 month sabatical from chrysler but will be starting again monday. Guy at my old dealership said it was something like 2.5 hours to program it. Maybe some of that was driving to relearn shift points

No it is actually 2.5 hours of programming. I have seen the recall procedure. They hook up a battery charger to make sure there are no low power events. One of the 4 modules takes forever for some reason.

So far there is no difference at all in anything I have seen, but I have never tried to get out of it without it being in park. I am guessing I will run into it when I am trying to back up to a trailer. I like having the drivers door open so I can see behind me.

There was a recall on rams years ago that added some kind of annoying chime when you had the door open in rev. We where actually letting people know what the 10 year old recall did before we performed it. Had a couple pissed off customers after we couldnt turn it off.

Had my first instance of it going into park last weekend. I was backing my new trailer into its spot. I opened the drivers door to get a better view behind me and it went into Park. I knew it was going to happen.

Does it have the same rotary dial 8 speed as the RAM?

Apparently you have to leave your seat belt on when you open the door to keep it from going into park.

No it does not have the rotary dial, It has the electronic shifter that returns to center after each use.

Yea, it pulls back to go from park to drive, forward back to park. It returns to a center position. Works more like an autostick. Bump it once and move 1 gear, push it to the second spot and it will to park. Thats where people are having issues.
Kinda hard to explain how it will go from drive to neutral or drive to park depending how many detents you bump the shifter
