We picked up a sub sandwich and headed for the river for a little tailgating and peace and quiet.

I got to actually start fixing my parking brake...
It went boom while flat towing to an event a month ago.

The backing plate is off and needs welded to fill some groves and make the shoe centering pin more solid.

I suspected this & kinda kept my finger's crossed , but...... I'm afraid one of my Circa 1962 K-H wheels is bent. My tire guy said he balanced them very well , but it's definitely wobbling . I'll get into it a bit more tomorrow .

My Daughter In Law made me a set of hood decals for Christmas. I just got around to installing them. I had driven to the Post Office and the hood was nice and warm, so the decals went on easy and stuck well..

it looks green but it's just the poor lighting and my terrible phone camera...it was more gray/brown color.

Took mine out asparagus picking, and it left me stranded. Here I am out of gas....had to walk 2.5 miles home. In flip flops. Blisters on the balls of both feet.

Now with 25% less rpm's. Also installed a 90° fitting for the speedo cable. Keeps it out of the exhaust and makes a much nicer sweep up to the cab. IMG_20220604_174508388.jpg IMG_20220604_174810551.jpg

I had to replace the steering damper (1982 Dana 30 axle). It was 10+ years old and began to leak. I didn't go aftermarket as a stock replacement was $42 at NAPA. If this lasts another 10 years, it's a good investment.

Recently some steering issues making the CJ less fun. Jeep would pull/dive right on acceleration and dive left a bit if I suddenly dropped off the gas pedal. Quick inspection showed shackle bushings worn badly. Looks like a major factor is the fact that the mounts were a little crooked. This is RockyRoad YJ spring conversion kit. Under the bolt-on mounts the original shackle mounts were not lots straighter. So I cut those off and plan to bolt and weld the YJ shackle mounts back on.

Ready to reinstall but out of welding gas!

    parts cleaned up.

I considered just doing this and welding the bracket on straight. Taking it apart , cleaning and doing it right won out.

I got the gas today. Maybe get it back together tomorrow. New bushing arrive Friday. Should have bought on Amazon.

Working on that 4th stick. I blew about 4 hrs trying to come up with a cable shift OD mechanism. It became too much tinker toying and I realized I had a wrong mental concept. Went traditional. This is a Scout D18 lever, made a bracket that bolts onto the shift tower into some 3/8 threaded embosses. Used a factory D18 shifter pin so it's greasable too. Sort the rod out tomorrow.

Points for trying something new/different- they don't always work out but they're always a learning experience. (y)
