Went to change the oil in Ted yesterday and that turned into a half day project. The stupid TDI has the drain plug on the side of the oil pain and with it configured in a normal vehicle, it probably hold 2-2.5 quarts still after draining it. I decided I better drop the pan and fix it right.

I had an old 350 oil pain from a blown up engine. I cut the drain plug out of it.

And removed the sheetmetal from the nut.

I drilled a hole in the low point of the oil pan and tacked the nut in. Now I can easily change the oil without too much fuss!

Wheels, tires and hubcaps were all craigslist purchases. I got lucky that the caps fit the wheels.

A set of 15x8 steelies with hubcaps is on my someday list. I almost bought a new set a while back but chickened out since I much prefer used parts.

After you posted a link a long while back I had four of them in an online cart and got all the way to checkout. Figured I could find a used set… then I didn’t… then they were out of stock for a while… :waiting:

I check used Jeep parts on CL & marketplace all the time...this isn't something that pops up very often.

Agreed and so do I. Hasn’t been a big enough of a concern to get serious about it though. I’ve been kicking around the idea of just painting my wagon wheels to see if that’s enough to hold me over.

Installed new glass run channel in my hardtop doors. Glass cut at a local shop, fabbed up some missing hardware.

Installed a new remanufactured AC Delco alternator (from Rock Auto) and new voltage regulator (from Walck’s) and sorted out some wiring mess!

I feel like there are few things more satisfying than conquering a wiring mess.

Yes! I would like to get the custom made Walck’s harness so I won’t have the electrical rats nest anymore. But for now I am very happy to have it working.

It hadnt moved for at least a couple months, so we blew the cobwebs out of the '71 and drove it to town to do some shopping.

It started right up once the carb got some gas and ran great today:

Since I took the '71 out yesterday, I took the '69 (that was blocked in by the '71) out today:

One of my boys stopped by yesterday and we hammered out the last of the front shackle bushings. I don't want to look at the aft front spring eye bushings.

Two were metal on metal and two had a little love left. Between this and the rest of the steering I have my wondering and wobbling and attraction to trees explained.

Soooo the CJ5 sold, and I promptly replaced with a YJ project.

Power washed the outside, stripped out the inside and vacuumed it. The Dirt Daubers really liked this thing. We dug 27 nests out of the inside of the Jeep plus some under the hood.

I wont. I dont mind V8s but prefer I4s and 6s. Not like that 304 was pumping out big power numbers.
