I think they must have been on my POs homemade rear seat brackets. The holes are 11.5” which matches the threaded holes in the bottom of the rear seat.

I just bolted the rear seat into the homemade brackets and called it good.

These are the factory rear seat brackets, photo from my saved pics of other jeeps. 67DC3F4D-A575-4B25-AA34-27B20D6D3332.jpeg

yeah she did an amazing job restoring the seatbelts.

I was all set to put the transmission back in last night with the parts out for delivery all day on FedEx…

Waited until 8 PM and then my phone pinged me that “out for delivery” actually meant “delayed arriving tomorrow.” sure seems like the shipping companies have no idea what they’re doing right now.

The weekend has come to a close, and after the family camping trip, I managed to find enough time today to button her back up.

Going to give the silicon gasket under the shift tower 24H to dry and how fully test drive after work tomorrow. After I install the seatbelts of course…

    Thanks!!
Guess what guys!!?! I drove her to a friends house across the neighborhood and let the little guy throw water balloons! All went well, the transmission surgery was a success and the Sniper has some learning to do. 69297094-4726-4719-A1EF-615FB5AD513E.jpeg

Might drive her to work this week so I can get her into third gear.

Gotta keep the kids in the game! They will always remember every sound and smell from that jeep. And the fact that they have the coolest dad around. Enjoy it Grant, take the family out as much as you can, and there will be stories.

Thanks guys! Really appreciate it. It's been a long but fun few years getting to this point.

Still some slightly major items to complete, such as getting the parking brake in service and dialing in the disc/drum PV, and devising a plan for the front NOS hubcaps!

I actually have been using that rock for years and years and it has "PARKING ROCK" written on it in Sharpie! Found it in the forest and it spoke to me....

Hey guys just looking for a quick procedure check – my left rear drums are rubbing while I drive. If I pop the little rubber cover off the inside, rotating the star wheel up will pull the drums back correct or do I have it backwards?

If you have it jacked up, one way will make it tighter, one looser. I can never remember which way to start. But it will be obvious.

Well, I put the rear end up on two jack stands
and got the wheels off and investigated the noise I was hearing, and it turns out I found not one but two problems.

The noise is being caused by the backing plates rubbing on the outer edge of the brake drums. This has been bad enough to wear a groove in the brake drum.

I am running the 11 inch drum brake upgrade kit from Herm, and new hubs I believe from Kaiser Willy’s. All of this of course got put together more than two years ago. Is this an issue people have seen before? Why would the drums be too far in so as to contact the backing plates?

issue two, which is exacerbating the first problem, is that it appears the left-hand axle shaft is bent. It’s obvious to see when you rotate the hub on the right side you can see it running out at the castellated nut.

    Here’s a video:
    https://share.icloud.com/photos/0f9tNtrs3GLhiM-YlyCIrfGaA

How can I determine whether I have a 10 or 19 spline axle shaft so I can order a new one? Can you tell from the tag on the differential? Or do I need to pull it first and count splines?

    A 1966 will be 19 spline.

Well, if you would quit jumping it...just kidding. The rubbing drum could be from that, but I'm not familiar with Herm's kit. If you need an axle shaft, let me know, I did a few full floaters and probably still have the axles.
