Checked in with a member of the Colo club I used to wheel with to ask about his TJ with RE kit... here's what he said:

No Finder trimming had a 3 1/2 inch Rubicon express suspension lift running 35s15 inch rims 3.5 backspacing

I do recommend putting a 1 inch body lift and engine mount lift with a belly up skid plate it’s like adding three extra inches to the bottom of your jeep but you will have to do a slip Yolk eliminator kit.

I don’t remember you dragging on anything on Deer Valley with your current set up. That being said the 35’s would make the Duesy a little easier. Yo don’t need to worry as much with the TJ being top heavy like the CJ with the additional 1” body lift.

A lot of conflicting info out there regarding lifts and tire size. I am running a RE 5.5" lift with 37" Iroks. My Jeep had spacers when I bought it. I took them off and had interference with the 37's and the front lower control arms. Put the spacers back on. Never had any issues with them since. If your TJ (Jeff) is a Rubicon, and I'm pretty sure it is, you would have the Rocktrac t-case. It doesn't have a slip yoke so no need for a SYE kit. You could probably fit 33's without any lift, let alone a 3.5" lift. I could likely fit 40's with the 5.5" lift but I have no desire to go that big. If you have the funds, go with the triangulated 4 link rear. It's bolt-on and not that much more money and you can ditch the rear track bar.

True I didn't drag too much just hoping for a bigger tire and a little more clearance. Hoping to stay away from the body lift but will check it out.

    Thanks James,
I will check out my backspacing. My tires rub a little on the flares at full stuff right now.

    Thanks John,
Good info. I do have a Rubicon so good to know I will not need the SYE kit. Maybe with the money I save on that I can afford the triangulated 4 link. Off for more research.

Doing a transmission filter change on my 2004 Rubicon and have a question. Transmission pan gasket is a thin rubber gasket. Owners manual states gasket plus ATF RTV. Gasket instructions says no sealant or adhesive. Other google searches say no gasket just the RTV What say yee?
It had a gasket and sealant when I took it off.

Hey Jeff, did mine with just a gasket and it leaked. Not a fun do over. Never been a fan of just sealant either. Use both and done.

Quick question. RTV on pan, then the gasket then bolt to transmission?

So I did RTV on the pan, gasket and then more RTV. Finger tight and torque in 1 hour.

All torqued now. According to the RTV instructions I have to wait 24 hours to fill it

Just filled it and, no leaks! All back together. Before doing the service it seemed to take a few seconds to engage when putting it into Reverse or drive. Almost instantaneous now. The fluid was red but kind of dark. Glad I did this. 135k miles and I am not sure it was ever changed.

I took the TJ to Hollister Hills this past Saturday. I wanted to check the lockers and just play a little. My lockers work great but the dash lights flash when operating. They are supposed to be a solid light.
Ona side note I was going a little fast up a really steep hill and hit a hole. My steering wheel now looks like this when the wheels are straight. I did not get time to look too closely but the alignment is now at least 1" toe in instead of the 1/8" it was at. Hopefully nothing more than a bent tie rod. I did measure distance from the front of the frame to the axle and it does not appear to be pushed back. It drove great all the way home with no wobble or other problems.
I need to get underneath and see what is going on. I plan to pull the tie rod off to see if it is bent or something else it going on.

Most likely the tierod although the draglink could also be the culprit. Takes a lot more effort to bend the draglink though. Good luck, Jeff.

    Thanks John,
I upgraded to the Grand Cherokee for a little more beef on the tie-rod. A new one is only $41 and will be here Sat. Hoping that is all that I messed up. I just looked and the beefier drag link is $92. Maybe I will order that also

Tie rod showed up today. Old one is definitely bent. Hopefully it will get replaced tomorrow or Sun. I'll take a pic of both.
After many hours of research still no idea why my locker lights flash even when engaged. Electrical short?? I did read a bad or loose ignition switch could cause it.

A friend of mine with a TJ Rubicon is having the same issue. He has narrowed it down to a faulty sensor in the differential. His locker is working but the sensor is not indicating that its locked. Here's the rub. You have to pull the differential case to change the sensor. He is waiting to do a gear change this Fall and change the sensor then. It's annoying have the lights flash but as long as the locker is actually engaging, no harm done.
