Hello everyone, I'm new to this site, but not new to jeeps. I'm looking for info on which 231 exhaust manifolds that will fit in my cj5 with a converted dauntless 225 out of a jeepster. I did the saginaw steering conversion on it,so i want to get rid of the left side front dump manifold. I read a post on it, but the guy at the junkyard is having a hard time finding what ones fit. Is there any specific ones that fit? Any info that i can give him to make the search easier? Thanks, and great site. I'm sure i'll be here often. :)

I'd look for mid-to late-'70's 231 manifolds. I'm not sure, but I think the exhaust ports changed after '79. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. A lot of guys use the regular driver-side 231 manifold which usually clears the Saginaw shaft and dumps downward. I was able to use a 231 passenger-side manifold that clears my Saginaw shaft. It's mounted just like from the factory so it dumps in the front, but the 231 passenger manifold has a shorter dump than the factory 225 manifolds so this is how I gained the clearance for the shaft.

78' Chevy Monza had a narrow manifold that had to clear the steering shaft. Could also try Olds Starfire or Pontiac Sunbird.

Thanks for the info. Can i still use the original 225 manifold on the passenger side with a 231 manifold on the driverside? From what i gather there ar'nt any major flow differences between the two. If thats the case i'll ask for a driverside manifold for a mid to late 70's buick (any GM model? ) with a 231, and hopefully i'll be in buisness. Thanks for all the help.

Forgot too add Buick Skyhawk. You could get a 231 in all of these cars.

i used a '77 buick skylark. clears well. you might need to take out the butterfly valve and vacuum motor from the 231 mani. if so keep the mounting spacer for the valve as a connector. i tapped the hole left from the butterfly axle and torqued in a grade 5 bolt. you will also probably need to use a longer bolt for the center hole in the manifold.

the regular gasket kit for the 225 or the 231 fits perfectly.

i kept the pass side 225 mainfold installed.

I'll add that a 1984-85 231 out of a Olds Delta 88 also uses a driver side rear dump that would work for you. Just be sure it is not a turbo equipped car.

    Welcome!

Thanks for all the info guy's. Sorry to sound so nit-picky but the guy that runs the local junkyard is an old timer and you dont tell him what fits... if you know what i mean. I'm pretty sure he'll have it and i like to give him my buisness when i can. I'll try to get this thing this week. Looks like i'll just get the driverside manifold to save alittle $ and time. thanks again. Still trying to figure out what took me so long to find this site.......

Just a quick note to thank everyone for thier help in locating a 231 exaust manifold for my 225. I picked it up on friday. I forgot to ask what it came out of, but it fits just the same. I was in such a tizzy trying to locate one, i feel guilty in not posting an introduce myself thread first. No one will hold that against me right?.......

Anyone have a idea on what this came out of? Looks like a 225 manifold with smog. Number cast on it Is 991620

    I don't believe a 225 manifold would have "smog".

You'd be wrong on that. I have several 60-70's jeeps with 225V6 with smog pumps

But the smog ports are in the heads on 225s not the manifolds. In fact, the '77 odd-fire 231 in my '69 has the smog ports in the head too.
