So, I've always wanted a nice, clean garage floor. Started looking at epoxy etc. Had a company come up
    and give me a quote.
    400 square ft
A couple cracks and low spots to fill
Polyurea coating which they, of course, said is way better than epoxy.
    Nothing difficult or special.
    $3600 !!!!!!
Does that sound remotely reasonable ? I can get a DIY kit using Poly including etching solution
and grit along with a roller for around $250 tops. I'm thinking of doing it myself. Doesn't have
    to be perfect.

    $$3600

When we had a lake house on Lake Conroe, we had our garage coated by our daughters boyfriend. Sorry for the terrible picture, but's all I had. He "prepped" it, sprinkled the little flakes in it, we allowed it to cure for several day, as soon as I drove my 57 Chevy onto the floor, the tires made imprints into the floor, evenually started coming up in places. You can do it, just prep it yourself and do it correctly. I too would like to do part of my shop someday, but 3600?? eek!
can't really tell much, mostly leaves in the pic

Everyone I know that has ever tried it has been disappointed.

How about getting the concrete polished?

Our new firehouse, the finish is polished, but not glossy. Definitely concrete but easy to clean without being dangerously slick.

The Goldilocks surface, "just right." Not sure what it would be called, technically.

I prefer the non flammable surfaces for when I stop drop and roll.

    No coating for me.

I like concrete with a bit of a "finish" on it.. My old shop the PO had over finished the concrete to a dang near glass finish and it was scary.. Even a drop of water turned it into a Laurel and Hardy skit..

My concrete has too many divots in it to polish. I'm just going to do it myself. Got another quote and they said,
to have a warranty, they'd want to fill the cracks and low spots. I keep telling them I don't expect a super pretty,
smooth surface. I just want something where, when I drop a bolt, I can find it. Second quote was $3200.
So I'm going to fill the cracks and divots, rent a floor polisher with a diamond wheel. Grind the floor,
etch it and put a polyurea coating on it. If it lasts a few years ill be happy.

I color acid stained mine. Got some dark brown and diluted with water till light brown and moped it on. Then mopped on the dark brown in swirl patterns. Neutralized with vinegar washed and dried then sprayed acrylic sealer on it. Just have to recoat with sealer every couple of years.

In the new shop I've been looking at floor coatings. I have yet to find something affordable that seems to work. I was thinking about staining it but did not find much about the sealer and how often to reapply. I also don't want to have to empty the shop every few years and mess with resealing it.

Maybe I can find some old style laminate like was on Grandmas kitchen floor and go with that.

Mine is rough finished, which is to say "unfinished". I'm not interested in something shiny/purty but I would like to seal it to get rid of the dust.

Get some kerosene and boiled linseed oil. 3 parts linseed oil and 7 parts kerosene. Spread on floor and get a high speed buffer and buff it in. Will have a shiny floor and not slippery when wet. Can buff in the future and will shine again.

The house I'm building right now has the entire second (living area) floor slab ground and polished. Close to 1,800 sq ft was a bit over $6 grand, but still well under the price of tile, mortar/thinset, and labor. Not slick at all, even when wet.

For the downstairs garage/warehouse, I'm using WEST epoxy on the smooth finished concrete floor. Mix up a quart at a time, pour out a puddle, and use a 16"-18" trowel to spread it. Next day, take a 9" sanding disc to "buff" it out.
I've done this for two other shop floors and it works great. Not particularly pretty, but very effective. The WEST absorbs into the concrete then kicks off. Even ATF sitting on it for 2 weeks just wipes up with no stains.

I did mine twice with rustling on a 30×30 garage last a long time. Oil and gas doesn't hurt it

I use a time proven finish on all my concrete.
It’s called old times “Garage Floor Patina”.
It includes all of the original grease, oil, and antifreeze stains plus divots and cracks !

I used Rust-Oleum s kit when we first moved in. It was brand new concrete so I'm sure that helps. Going on 5 years and I have no issues. I finally did the second half last year. Did all the prep. No previous oil spills.
