Have a broken alternator bracket or exhaust manifold? Well, worry no more! I can fix those or pretty much any broken part with the exception of pot metal. I know most people worry about cast iron repairs being weak or ugly. The filler rod I use works very well and is strong. I cut one exhaust manifold in half on Snowshoe and welded it back together. Now that is a true test in one of the worst environments for a repair.

Nice work. What filler metal do you use for cast iron?

I don't know what it is made of, the manufacture will not reveal their recipe.

I typically weld cast iron using 55% nickel rod on AC current.
99% nickel works also but that gets too hard to machine it except for grinding.
Running AC current puts 50% of the heat into the work and the remainder into the electrode.

This filler does not seem to contain much nickel since it does rust. My engine friends are super excited about it because it does rust and blends in really well.

Yes, I would certainly be interested to know what type of rods those are and what polarity you welded with.
In your last pic I notice that the weld kerf (ripples and build up) looks to be much closer to a normal weld kerf as compared to something like 6013 0r a 7o18 series electrode on steel.

Oh now I see black smoke and no slag on your last pic. So that = TIG not stick electrode that I pictured in my head.
Yeah very hard to beat tig for good weld penetration.

So, let us know what the brand and part number is for this welding filler metal.

C’mon guys, he’s offering his services here in the Member Market. It’s a trade secret. I’m betting he might let you in on that information if/when you pay him for his services. :)

Just some more successful repairs on an aluminum 225 bell housing.

Just have to put some thread inserts in the transfer case shifter mount and it will be good to go!

Hi, I have an L-head exhaust manifold that may be worth a shot at welding. Picture someone putting a rediculously heavy carb on the manifold. It has cracks down each side and along the face between the exhaust & intake.
Where in MA are you? I’m in RI - could maybe ship or next time I drive north could find you.
If you might be interested in trying a repair, I can shoot a couple pix.
    Cheers,
    Tom
