Cleaning up some wiring behind the dash and putting in a new ignition switch (that will be in the OEM dash location instead of the steering column)....Its a pretty straight forward 3 position swtich (OFF/ON/Start) with the 4 main terminals (ACC/ST/IGN/BAT), but I ran into something a bit surprising. How was the OEM routing down for the coil wire that goes from IGN terminal to the coil? Mine currently looks like the wire goes to the #1 post (as referenced on diagram below) on the speedo cluster to provide +12V to the cluster (gauges and indicators, not lights), but it also continues on to the coil. Is this original? This means the speedo cluster is powered when starting the vehicle, whereas I would have thought the the cluster was powered by 12V from the ACC terminal so it only gets power when running (ON position)? thanks!

The diagram on p127 of the FSM seems to suggest its wired correctly...The coil wire comes from IGN on the ignitions switch and goes to terminal 1 on the speedo cluster and then to the coil....Guess that allows the gauges and indicator light to be functioning when starting....If someone knows better than I, let me know....thanks

On your ignition switch. Check with a meter and see if the ign terminal disconnects from power when in the start position. Most of those types do. Not really a problem if you have the ignition bypass from the solenoid to the coil.

thanks Walt - that is one of those things I might have forgotten...partially because I think of the bypass wire as bypassing an external resistor which I've removed (internal resistor in the coil).
