forgive me all, if you have tried to reply as my hard drive puked and I cant seem to get things right. so I am using a temp account using my wifes name. as you all know, they are NOT interested in these old things, but they ARE interested in keeping us out of their hair so they can play on faceybook or whatever. so here goes 1) I have a farm cj3a with a REP8000 on it currently. its fine but when it rains and we go trotting across the bigger fields, and bog, I am out of cable quickly and man that winch is slow. so I picked up a belleview for nothing and we all know they are fasssst. but that belleview has no brake cover. but since that jeep lives on land flatter than a table, and the winch will only be for self extraction do I really need the brake??? I have a tractor for all other nonsense. 2) that belleview has the thickest cable known to man on it. can I put 5/16" synthetic on it and get something like 150' on it? that would make it truly useable. no rocks, no mud, just pull me out of a mire- quicker and further than the ramsey 3) back the cover. the winch has a cable operated brake on the gearing side, and thats all complete. isnt the brake that I see on the armature there to prevent armature overrun when pulling the cable out? I cant really see any other need for it. its not supposed to drag unless the weigths are slung out. so its not really a brake but a rpm governer, IMO. but Ive been wrong today. a few times.
