I need help installing a horn button on my 1957 CJ5. I have all the parts and review the prior posts but can’t seem to find a diagram of how to install. Also seems the wire need to run through my steering box? I am not sure if this needs to be opened to do this. Thanks

Yes it exits out the box, feed a wire up through the column & use it to pull the horn wire down, the tube it goes through in the box (#8 below) is thin so keep the joint in the wires narrow.

Thanks. So no dis-assembly is required. Just feed a wire up from bottom and use that to pull the horn wire down.

Provided you have the correct steering box for a CJ5 the wire exits through the box. I use a straightened wire coat hanger to fish the wire through the tube. Just insert it up through the hole at the bottom and when it comes out at top use some electrical, or duct tape to fasten the horn wire terminal to the coat hanger wire and pull it through.

I was going to install a horn wire kit, but ran into an issue feeding the wire through. Pappy’s idea makes a lot of sense.

I will give the coat hanger wire a try and see if I can get my horn to work correctly.

    thanks Pappy.

The reproduction horn button kit I bought works okay but I had to install it without the wire ring that goes into the rubber cover. With the ring in there the horn stayed on. I didn't have an original to compare but I think the wire for the ring is too thick in the reproduction I got. Works okay without it.

So the steering wheel goes on then the steering nut then the horn button. Then the copper washer and rubber boot on top?

I finally got my horn wired in today atop the steering column like OEM.

As there was no clear reference material for video on YouTube, I did create this to guide future owners. Hopefully it helps
