    In case anyone else is looking, I've been searching for a ballast resistor for my '67 Dauntless that's a match to the OEM unit. The only references I was able to find were the Jeep part number for the ballast resistor, 938987, and one shown in a photo of the engine bay of an unmolested early '66 CJ5a with only about 3,000 miles on the odometer (from http://www.earlycj5.com/xf_cj5/index.php?threads/139291/):

    I finally figured out that the ballast resistor used with the early Dauntlesses was the same GM unit used on the 1955-67 Chevys (and probably Buicks as well), Delco-Remy D-1110. The one I bought was NOS, but repros are also available.

    Here's an enlargement showing the resistor on the '66 above, and the installed NOS one at bottom:

    Great info Maury! I still have the original, which looks exactly like in your post pics. But I would like to get a new.

    Hey Roy,

    This repro is very reasonably priced, and except for the logo, it appears to be a dead-to-nuts copy of the original GM version. However, I'm not sure if it has the same amount of resistance as the OEM resistor.

    I actually bypassed mine (white bypass wire visible above), as I'm running a Pertronix and a 3-ohm internally resisted Brillman Super Stinger coil designed for 12 volts.

    Maury, So thats why you were looking at the one on my orange Jeep last week. Mine is likely original to the ‘72 body. AMC “borrowed” lots of components from the big manufacturers, including the whole Dauntless.

    @maurywhurt
    Thank you again Maury for always having direct links to parts for our Jeeps. I just got my replacement ballast resistor today, and put on the Jeep (the original cracked and the resistance wire got broken) Should be good for another 56 years (y)
