Well, I finally got around to re gearing my front dana 30 in my XJ to match the rear D44 that I swapped to 4.10.. I thought I was all prepared with setup bearings parts and all.. Yeah, I goofed.. I have a low pinion R & P and not the high pinion that's in my XJ.. Dangit.. I cna't complain, they were given to me years ago. I just never checked, but now I need a high pinion D30 4.10 R & P.. Not a lot of $ for a new one but just sorta stinks lol..

I once scrapped a d30 thinking I couldn't use it because it had the wrong series case. It was nice and clean, 6bolt hubs and drum brakes.
That's life you win you lose. Double check before you order, triple before you sell, quadruple before you cut or scrap.

Is it the same d30 that was in a Wrangler? If so I have a new 4:10 gear set with install kit with a new carrier I would like to get rid of. All Dana and Timkin. I also have the set for the rear also.

I "think" that's my problem.. I have the wrangler set. I think those were low pinion and the XJ is a high pinion.. What year was the wrangler? the step from the two bearing journal faces is 1.253 for the high and 2.283 for the low pinion if that helps?

Was a 1989. Thought it was a high pinion but don’t remember. I ordered the wrong ratio and didn’t know till it was too late to return. They have been stored away since 1998 and forgotten about till this summer. I tried to sell them on a Wrangler group on Facebook a few months ago with no takers.

The gears are for the 89 which has a high pinion. Looking at the gears they are opposite of one another so would have to be the case. I tried looking up the numbers stamped on the gears to get info for you but nothing came up but 4:10. I ended up putting 4:56 gears in but it was twenty years ago and don’t remember the specifics, my memory is horseshit. I’ll sell the front gear set carrier and install kit for $175 and throw in the d35 set with install kit to do with what you want, they are laying around and doing me no good. These are Dana and not motive gear or Crown junk.

should be a tooth count stamped.. 41 and 10.. I'll get back to you shortly, I'm out in Texas at a meeting for a couple of days but sounds good. If you can just count the teeth and 10 on the pinion and 41 on the ring and all is good..
