This appears to be a 231 engine. While it displaces 3.8 liters, the "3800" term came along with the front wheel drive cars.

I'm wondering how well the later 90's models would bolt-in to replace a 225? The article raves about them, the Series II and III models of the 3800.

More torque and HP as well as fuel injection. The 300 HP Buick GNX version even sported more than 400 ft. lbs. of torque! Similar bolt patterns? I might be tempted to start looking for one of the Series II and III models.

 

IIRC the FWD versions use a different bellhousing bolt pattern & different mounts too.

 

I believe the 3800 Series ll shares the Chevy 2.8 (60 degree) V6 bellhousing pattern. Not that it couldn’t be adapted, but its far from bolt-in. I wonder if the 3800 shares a flywheel with the 2.8? Even the old 2.8 S10s are getting scarce.

.....Don't need to change the Bell , just need an adapter for the TC , Move the motor mounts & shorten the drive shaft. No more stalling on those steep Hill climbs .

I agree, but their bellhousings are usable for fwd 3800 swaps.
