    I got my suspension brackets tacked onto the frame today. I am using F150 rear springs, and will use Rover fronts

    I have had enough with the rusty hulk in the yard, so it was time to chop choppy chop

    Everything is free from the rusty prison. The scraps get tossed tomorrow. I need to try adn get the rusty bolts sout of the front springs so i can continue the mockup until my actual springs get here.

    I delivered the rusty carcass to the dumpster today. So nice not having to deal with that mess anymore.
    I did find this Rust puke in the frame rail.

    I flipped the frame over and slid the axles under to get them out of the way.

    I need to get some ubolts to bolt up the rear axle to the springs and I need to order front springs.
    The mounts look janky, but they are just tacked in, i will brace them to the frame and make them look much better.

    The real bummer thing is the rear axle has the cap rotted out and the axle spun and the oil drained all over the floor. At least it was water, and peaking through the holes it looks relatively OK. I can tell the pinion bearings are toast, i just hope it is not the pinion gear.

    It makes me tired just thinking about what's ahead of you to complete this.

    I definitely admire your courage, and the speed at which you approach fabrication!

    Looking at the picture of the frame cut in half and the front axle still bolted up, the frame is very wide and the axle narrow. With that tall of a tire, what is the turning radius of this rig? I see the new frame is close to or the same as the old. Are you using these axles or going with something with a wider track? Nice work on the frame. Wish I could get things done as fast as some of you guys work.

    If your going to stay with the original Rover axles, I will offer a complete drum to drum rear axle from a '69 Series 2a. I'm even further south than where your Rover came from though, so getting it to you would be a pain.
    Now you understand why Rovers (and many other British vehicles from the '50s through the '70s) rust out. There is absolutely no paint or coating inside the tubular/boxed frames. I've disassembled Big Healeys to find frame rails that look the same as yours inside.

    I noticed that yesterday also, but i think it looks really bad because i didnt have the springs on there so the frame will have a bit more distance for the front turning/scrub of springs.


    Thanks for the offer of the axle. I have to see what I have with the health of the this one. I was planning on using later Rover/Discovery axles for the disc brakes. But we will see what I find or if i run out of funds. :)

    The later disc brake axles are quite a bit wider than the Series axles, and they all have a 3:54 ratio. The Series had somewhere in the 4:70 ratio as I recall. I can measure widths if you need this info.
    With the later disc brake 3:54 axles, the effective ratios were made up in the LT230 transfer case. Early Range Rovers have a 1:1 ratio (making it actual 3:54 final drive), Discos have 1.22:1 ratio, Defender V8 has 1.41:1, and 2.5 diesel Defenders had 1.67:1 ratio. Its an interesting way to re-gear the vehicles this way.

    I am kind of go away from the Rover axle idea. I was reading more into it and I am changing my direction for them. I am mocking everything up with the original onces still, but in the back of my mind I am looking at Land Cruiser FJ40 axles. The widths of them are matching good for a series replacement. This weekend I am going to start the process of pulling motor out of S10. I have my front springs ordered by Rocky mountains Products, but they wont get here till next week.

    Donny you guys looking for a 2.0L motor by chance? It is up for sale now, trying to make room in the garage :)

    I've already got a 2.25L from my parted '69 dropped in a '83 Nintey with an LT77 behind it. It was previously a turbodiesel, so its got the low ratio transfer case. This will be put up for sale when I finish my D90 project. It will probable go down the road with a Series 2a bulkhead.
    The Toyota axles are a good chioce if you can find them. They are pretty scarce around hear.
    I was thinking about the Rover axles. I wonder if you could bolt your 4.70 diff assy into the later disc housings, using the 1980's 10 spline axles? By the mid-'90s, Rover upgraded to a 26 spline. I think the earlier axles would work with the Series diffs. Just food for thought.

    I was thinking about doing just that but i have not seen many early Rovers here. One popped up near me, but they wanted to get rid of the whole thing and i felt kind of bad robbing it for just the axles, it didnt look that bad. plus i am at max room for vehicles in the yard. i hope to get this motor out of the S10 so i can get it out.

    I am hoping that I can find a buyer from that crowd. I think i should be able to get $500 for it. I hope to get the title so might ask 600 ;)

    I got my rear ubolts in today. The rear is bolted up now. The front springs and bolts come in this week. Then it will be a roller and I can finish up the welds on the suspension

    Lol. I sold my '71 for $5,000. Granted, it was 20 years ago... it was nicer than the $29,000 one.
