I just purchased a 1965 CJ-5 with a Willys hard top which has been on the jeep but is not mounted. I think I have it figured out but how does the front of the hardtop mount to the windshield frame? There is a square horizontal tube coming forward with a small vertical plate with two holes that would seem to mount to the windshield frame. Problem is there are no corresponding holes in the windshield frame. Am I missing spme pieces?
    Thanks

I removed the top from my jeep to replace the windshield frame. The original frame rotted out at the bottom from years of windshield condensation. I had to drill new holes in the new holes in the windshield to mount the top. Most hardtops were aftermarket. When mounting the to to the windshield frame, release the windshield to dash latches so the windshield will fit at the correct angle, and then readjust the windshield to dash latches. I installed a new rubber gasket between the windshield and dash as well. The old one was very compressed. Be sure to install the doors and make sure the hinges allow the doors to shut properly. If the windshield is tilted back too far, the top hinge sits back too far as well, and the door may be too tight at the bottom.

You need to post pictures. There were many different top makers. I don't know which maker was the official "Jeep Special Equipment" maker in 1965. By the '70s you could buy the Meyer cabs delivered on the Jeeps, but I believe only a comparative few were sold that way. At the dealership where I worked, it was better for the dealership to oprder the Jeeps with no Special Equipment and add these as the customer requested. Besides, the Jeep factory did a sloppy installation job, compared to the dealership mechanics.

If the top has never been permanently mounted, you will need to drill holes.

Some of the various tops are shown here: http://cj3b.info/Hardtop.html

    Post pictures.

Thanks, It is none og these. Midwest Willeys said it was Willys. I have some pictures but don't yet know how to attach.
This top has sort of a domed fiberglass roof. Rectangular paralelagrm shaped sife windows, real lift gate, Heavy/thick steel doors.

Do the pieces appear that they might look like this once assembled?

That is it. EXACTLY! I have heard it's made by "overland". I have all the parts in good shape except I am puzzled by the connection to the windshield frame. There is a horizontal square tube under the roof above the door opening. At the forward end there is a vertical tab with a hole above and below the tube. There are no corresponding holes in the window frame. And the top has been mounted on this jeep. Is there a piece that I don't have between the end of the tube and the window frame? The doors look kind of massive.
Amone know where I could find a parts list?
    Thanks

Mine had a Jiffy cab when I got it, but I picked up that same cab last year. I didn't like the doors on the Koenig- thought they looked out of place on that "stylish" top so I cut down the doors off my Jiffy cab (were 2" too tall) for a way cleaner look (they sit flush).

When I use the hard top in deep winter, I make the seal between the top and the wind shield frame with two, I was skinny then, 1 inch leather belts as a spacer and padding and use 5 1 inch c clamps to hold it in place.

My meyer top bolts directly to the window frame on my 69.

Would like to know where you're at... would be good to do a grip and grin.

N Ca seems a lot of things to a lot of folks. I've heard folks in Fresno call it 'nor cal.' (whut? Your north of Bakersfiled, the Tehatchapi Mountains Los Angeles, and that's it... it's still 9 hours to Oregon). Just draw a line from Reno-Sacramento-San Francisco line on the E-W route (that's about a 3 hour drive by the by), North from there to the Oregon border is larger than many states on the East coast, it's 5 hours north roughly to Oregon, and 7ish to San Diego. I guess folks in Redding might move the line a little more north...

a lot of folks around the 'area' here (within 3 hours or so of me here in Chico, give or take).

I will be taking my cab off this fall. Apparently I need to make some cad drawings for these brackets and the filler on the koenig top. I have solidworks and I can make some pdf drawings. If anyone needs a pdf dxf or slddrw let me know in a pm.

I just bought the same Koenig hard top for my jeep, it was all apart when I got it, I have all the little pieces. But I am missing the trolly that holds up the back hatch. Does anyone have a pic of this? I thought if I could see what it looks like I might be able to make one or at least I would know what I'm looking for at swap meets. Thanks, Bruce

I had that top on my first CJ. And still wish i didnt get rid of it :(
But i remember having a badly mangled plate that bolted to the bottom of the front of the fiberglass lip and then went back about 3-4 inches and bolted to the windshield frame. Kind of like soffit is to a house roof overhang. It was a loooong time ago and i do not have a picture of it.
