Got this ugly little girl for a few hundred bucks. Not sure there's much usable metal left but dang, worked on the v6 for about an hour and got it to start! Ha What do you all think? Joined to ask. Ill remove the tub and inspect the frame once I'm done putting together my XJ.
    Cheers

The windshield alone is worth $300 - $500.

I know haha I can't wait to flip it up and drive around with goggles on 8)
This is a 67.. I read somewhere that the ventilating windshield had the wiper motors on the outside of the window in this year. Any truth to that? I'm waiting until Monday so I can call up debellajeepparts and see if he cant get me set up with a NOS seal kit. Are these the original seat frames? I noticed it had square tail lights and power steering, both indicative of mismatched parts according to my day of research.

Can anyone tell me the story on this thing? I am not a CJ guy but I'm excited to get this thing cleaned up.

    Tilt column (not stock).
    HEI distributor (non stock).
    Non stock looking alternator.
    Original seat frames? Nope.

    Good start to a CJ.

Looks like a great start. Definitely a great deal for a few hundred bucks. It's been modified quite a bit from it's original form but, they all seem like good changes...positive changes. So you got that going for you. Personally, Id have to lose that tire rack straight away but, maybe you're planning some deep back country travel and will want it.

Yes. looks like an OD shifter sticking up. Points for that.
Power steering added. Points for that.
Venting windshield= tons of cool factor. Points for that.

Could be a later 231 V6, seeing the HEI distributor or, someone installed said distributor into the 225. Positive move either way. Look for an EGR valve on the back of the intake, or a block off plate where an EGR used to be......indicative of a 231. 231 also has a stamped steel thermostat housing whereas the 225 is cast aluminum.

The side steps aren't original AFAIK. And the tail lights are replacements as you already know.

Thanks everyone! Glad to be here!

My plans for this might offend some purists (like my father) but I really like the thought of it sitting on some dana 44s and 38s.. maybe 42s.. The engine has something like 150hp, should be good enough for a little.. well.. big putter. The powerplant is least of my worries atm since it technically runs. Push the rear end back, widen the wheelbase, lift it up, build my own rollcage, new shiny dash. All that.

First plan of action is to remove the tub and inspect the frame as well as identify all the parts in the powertrain. I don't have the cash for a new frame on top of everything else so I think I'll grind it down to bare metal and weld in patches to close up the c-spans if it's straight. I love the color and the patina, I really just want to drop a set of floor pans in it and seal it up but the rust coming through the tub on both sides in front of the door jams might take that away from me.

The tire carrier.. yeah it's not my favorite, not the worst I've seen new either though ha. I'm looking really close at poison spyder for new stuff.

Ah and this is my problem guys.. it's a 67.. and all the prefab'd parts I'm seeing are for 76+. I've got the round fenders, narrow wheelbase and boxy tub.
I guess what I should be asking you all is what can I buy for this thing? I don't have an intimate knowledge of this CJ like I'd like to have.
I can "fab" but I can't engineer. I'm a CNC and computer operated plasma cutter away from that.
But I DO have a 20% off connection at my local metal shop, welders, pipe breaks, notchers, a tube roller and all the hand tools needed.(y):flag:

I'm not a "Purist" either, but don't ruin this one... Look for a '76+.

Haha aw I really wanted to ruin it. You would just restore this and be comfortable calling it quits after that? Is that yours above? A 71?

42s are a bit on the huge side... Tires like those need one ton axles and stuff... Like more wheelbase. If you don't mind doing alot of fabrication, you can build whatever you want though. Just takes time and money

42" inch tire i way too big....you will need some 1 ton axle and you will need at least 100" of wheel base to make it a good wheeler.

I'm running 36" tsl tire with dana 44 front and rear and more than that it's a buggy you need not a jeep :p

i did a complete coil spring set-up using dana 44 from scout.

The only place i wont go are those where you need a buggy.

Here a video of me on a very difficult hill.

I am just down in Bonney lake and probably have 3 of everything on your Jeep. Pretty easy to get these things to where they will wheel pretty well.

HAHA It is a little gross. The Mack dog made me laugh, I might have to do that.

Then you met my father near Mount Vernon! He obviously isn't doing anything with it. Pretty sure it was in this same spot when you came to look at it. You must be the guy that told him what he had. I just bought a seal kit for the window and he shook his head haha. I don't care. I'm restoring that thing first. (y)

Your CJ does sound excellent btw and too big for wheeling you mean? I was under the impression that the bigger your tires, the more professional a wheeler you are.

You're right guys, 42s are ridiculous. It's something I've always wanted to do to my 92 XJ. But dang, (Tangent beginning) XJs (other than their ability to climb and the 4.0L) are piles of crap. Jeep interiors from 1985 to current can shove it. I'm done trying to fix something only to break the next thing down the line. It's literally smh.. guaranteed to happen. And plastic in an offroad vehicle.. **** plastic! I crave rugged simplicity and I saw this thing continuing to rust and decided CJ>XJ.

For example, I'm chasing an issue with no indicators at the moment. Had to take the entire front end off to get to the wiring harness. The bumper is mounted with bolts and U-clips. Every clip broke in half during removal, that's 8 clips. Pulled the conduit and sheathing from the light harness and it was completely melted, exposed wires everywhere. No blown fuses though! Spent the day chasing XJs in junk yards, found a decent harness that I still had to splice my turns onto. Made it pretty, plugged it in. Hazards work but indicators still don't. So tomorrow I get to continue chasing this short into my main harness all the way to my fuse box. #XJdForTheLastTime

Anyone want to buy a 92 Cherokee? Only 280000 miles and boy, does it have a pretty exterior light harness. (Tangent ending)

I just need to figure out the best way to keep warm, because washington, and how to accomplish what I want and still keep it road legal. (I've been pulled over in my XJ with 32s for "almost having tires wider than my fenders." It was in Redmond.

Is that an offer to sell? Let me know what you have in a PM. I'm interested.

New news. This weekend I'm headed to Hoodsport to look at a 76 CJ5. Comes with a ford 302 and not much else which is good for me. I'll feel better about cutting in to that one. Plus, its a 76!

    I'm a sucker for a 1967 for a few hundred bucks, but maybe I'm biased . . . ;)
