    Hello all

Less than 200 miles from me a fellow has a 1970 Renegade 1 for sale that would need some help unfortunately. He's asking $4900. It was the lime green color I can tell from some areas under the hood and inside the fender wells where there are slight traces of it peeking out from under the primer gray and faded red it has now. Its a 4 speed with a dual stick transfer case. How much of that is stock I don't know.

    Here's the bad.
Someone has put a Ford 302 in it and it looks like it has a slight body lift. Only 2 small rust spots on the lower part of the tub on each side at the bottom about the size of a half dollar.

Would need both driveshafts a starter and a battery to make run and drive. I have a habit of brining home strays and misfits to bring back so I would want to put the 225 back in it and repaint it to its original color (one of then reasons I kind of like this Jeep aside from the 225 it should have). I don't really need another project now as I'm about to be knee's deep in my 72 Renegade and also trying to get a CJ7, but at what price point would that '70 be a good deal?

Any chance you can post some pictures? That might help with valuation estimates.

Just did. Sorry took a minute for me to get them to work.

It apparently came from the desert in New Mexico also. I did ask him if it had the swing away tire carrier but unfortunately he said its gone.

Its for sure got a lot going on with it that would have to be reversed and fixed. The engine swap is the biggest bummer for me and I wouldn't even give it a second look besides the color and being a Ren 1

Maybe 4900 if you could drive it home. But, like you said, there is a lot to undo if you're planning a correct restoration. That 302 and 4 spd (if it's a T18) would sure go nice in my '71. It's a good power option for a cj5, IMO.

Sort of wouldn't make sense to spend the coin on the custom driveshafts it probably needs, only to take them out later when the original drivetrain goes back in.

If you're interested because it's a Renegade you may want to see how many Renegade parts It's missing. Some aren't easy to come by if you are looking to do a full restoration.

The Renegade part of it definitely piqued my interest in it along with the color. I had been telling myself that I would like to get a early CJ5 with the Dauntless in it and happened to stumble across that one somewhat locally and noticed its color.

I ended up pulling the trigger on a 85 CJ7 Laredo I was watching so now im pretty much out of the game on it unless he gets desperate and the price drops on it

If you want an ecj5 with v6 - then I would think to look elsewhere. You can get a decent running and driving one for about the same price as the one you are looking at and it wouldn't require all the work to swap stuff back out. Seems to me the one you posted could be a nice jeep, but doesn't seem worth it to toss the v8 and 4speed - rather, quite a bit of its value is in the drivetrain assuming its in good working order. Even then, from my perspective, it is overpriced as its not driveable....how overpriced would depend on the condition and quality of the drivetrain swap - but hard to see it even worth $3500 as its not driveable.
