    As the owner of a early 1972 cj5, along with the original TSM for that year. I have found that I have been unable to find a original wiring diagram for the 72 model. Regarding the Oil pressure and Amp gauges on the left of the column , there is no information of the wiring for this year or model in the TSM. I am aware that the 73 does have a wiring diagram. I would ask if anyone has a 72, with the gauges , I would love to have some pics of the wiring of a 1972 or any suggestions anyone could offer, THANKS

    I feel your pain on the eccentricities of the '72. Currently, mine is in the rebuild stages so I can't send a pic of the wires behind the dash. This pic is from a Haynes Manual instead of the TSM. Typically, I use the TSM more, but sometimes, I refer to both.

    This schematic is listed as "1972 and 1973 Model Wiring Diagram."

    If I remember correctly, when I first hooked up my dash wiring using this diagram, the ammeter was working in reverse. While starting it, the meter showed positive amps and when I drove, it showed negative amps. That was a long time ago, and I don't remember how or if I fixed the problem.

    Reverse the wires.

    It would be interesting to compare this detail with the '73 or '74 wiring diagrams from the TSM. These definitely include the optional oil pressure gauge and ammeter. In '73, Jeep started offering these gauges on the regular option list, without requiring the Renegade package.

    I just joined the group. But give me a day. I'm working on an unmolested 1972 CJ5 renegade. I'll snap some photos for you under the dash.

    Man, I'd love to be in Vegas and get to go over your Jeep for a day or so. I bet there are all kinds of surprises on that thing.

    Thank you in advance, my wiring was so destroyed by shade tree elect tech who knew not that they knew not. I would like to know the last 6 of the vin and month of production if the sticker is intact. Another member and myself are collecting production month yr data and vin for the early thru mid cj’s

    The production sticker is unreadable on our jeep because it sat in the Las Vegas sun for many years.

    Suggest you look at the build date tag on the engine. That's typically close to the production date for the whole vehicle.

    H=2V 304
    5=1972
    02=February
    29=29th day (leap year!)

    Should be March 1972.

    It's in the TSM.

    Cheap on CD-ROM from RockAuto. The '74 TSM is here: Jeep® Parts Manuals online Mostly the same for the CJ. The Wagons and J-trucks changed a lot '72 to '74.

    Even your engine enamel is well preserved. That's a 49-states Jeep BTW.

    Excellent thanks! Other than the paint being burned off from the desert sun, it is very well preserved.

    the pictures you provide show me that as I have been told by more than one person that thru the 1972 model yr there were some changes, the location of your heater duct control knob and fan are different than my very early 1972. Mine has a hanging bracket, while yours appears to me mounted to the dash, but the control knobs look the same.

    A few pics of the dash when you can. Also do you have original owners manual?
