I broke one rear axle when I was in high school showing off in 2wd low range.
I broke another downtown on Main St. on a Friday cruise night chirping the rear tires in 2wd low range from block to block from each stoplight.
This was with the F4 and the stock D41 rear axle.
Yeah, it can and will happen.

and....the tires were 11-15 Armstong floats on 10" wide steel wheels...with 5:38 axle ratio.

I'm running a D44 flanged with knife edged axle splines. If that didn't break it then I'm not worried about it. I'll just enjoy my 2wd low. :coffee:

I have lock o mastics on my Jeep, my cabin is on a sand hill, 3" of top soil and then sand for ever under that. I put my Jeep in Low and cheap up the hill as not to break the surface so the grass and top soil can wash away and I have a wash out on the hill, works for me. We are basically on a sand dune in Northern Lower Michigan.

Getting rowdy in the early tech...
    :watch:
Here This guy has an ls2 sm465 np203 d20. I would say it has compound gears.

I wouldn't think a t-90 with a 4 or 6cyls would be an issue but it is good to explore the limit without getting frumpy because I haven't seen it myself.

Guys, I've seen a model 20 hub spin off the axle pulling into a driveway, broken spider gears on 30's fire trailing, a 35 spit an axle out on a road, disintegrated Trac Lok's, a T14 transmission breaking at a stop sign, broken 18 clustergears, destroyed engine thrustwashers, etc....

    CRAP BREAKS.
Regardless of what gear you are in, where you are, or what you are doing.

If you are going to abuse something (or it has been abused), it's probably gonna break. If you overtax something, it's probably gonna break. If however, you are cognoscente of a parts limits and use it within the limits, you should be fine. If you are looking for a slower gear or trying to eliminate wheel spin running the t case in low with the hubs unlocked, you probably aren't going to break anything. If you want to move a loaded trailer with four flat tires and are too lazy to lock in the hubs, well, then you're probably gonna get what you deserve......

i think the issue with stuff breaking in 2low is from the early jeeps with dana 23 rear axle.

Maybe this is all in my head, but for rocky dirt trails where im cruising 10-15 mph, i really felt like my jeep was smoother riding in 2 wheel drive. Which makes sense, since in 4 wheel drive the front axle has to rotationally follow what the rear axle is doing (to an extent with the open diffs). Any thoughts?

Yep, it's been noted. Teasing each other in fun is fine of course. Being truly rude and sarcastic is bad idea. ;)

    This.
I once exploded a Dana 60 so bad that only the housing and 1 axle shaft was salvageable. This happened while cruising on a level highway at 50 mph....

It wasn't intended to be rude, sarcastic, and it certainly wasn't "rowdy". I was simply telling the truth. That's ok. I said my piece and I'll leave it at that.

No. But after a very long time in the 4wd industry building these components I’ve given my advice and said my piece. Your vehicle, your choice. Just be prepared to pay the price down the road.
