The parts look great!! I know what you mean about not having enough air power! I had a small 2hp/25gallon and that just does not power anything for any length of time. I finally bit the bullet and bought a used 5hp/ 60 gallon Champion, but If I had known that much more expensive new, would have bought a new one. This thing is powerful and quiet! But if I had it to do over again, I think I would have gone with a horizontal~ these things are heavy!! ;)

I forgot to give an update on that "Shark Bite" where the previous owner used bondo to recreate that lip toward the back of the tub. Initially I tried bending a piece of steel to recreate that lip, but it didn't work. So I cut and grind three individual pieces of 16 gauge, welded them together, and then welded them onto the body.

It was actually quite difficult (for me) as I'm not a fabricator, but hey the lip is now there and its steel; without any bubba bondo! Recreating three sides of that lip was difficult though.

I cut and staggered the weld to give it strength, that way if anyone pushed on that corner in the event the rig got stuck, it wouldn't be a weak part of the tub.

I'm not sure you can do that and still say you're "not a fabricator".

I'm a student of what others here on the forum have accomplished. There are some seriously gifted people on ECJ5, and I'm just happy they share their knowledge with those of us that are just learning and trying to do new things we've never done before.

So I was digging through my garage and I found all these parts. I started putting them together and I'm proud to report its been a Jeep this whole time. Who knew? [IMG]

All kidding aside, I'm mocking up what I have and I think I'm going to hold off on doing anything further. Its covered in red oxide so it's not going rust. I want it to be a driver this summer, then I'll blow it apart again this fall and continue with the body and paint. As it sits currently its a decent 20 footer (at 25 MPH). I still need to finish the interior and a few mechanical items. So this is how its going to sit for the summer. Well, at least thats my plan but I'll admit I have trouble leaving well enough alone. [IMG]

    Punch List:

    1. Finish running the fuel line and reinstall the fuel tank
    2. Bleed the brakes
    3. Adjust the values
    4. Put the seats back in
    5. There something else I'm forgetting, it will come to me . . .

Oh yeah, and he is my dorky spin on hood blocks. I did that Japanese shou sugi ban treatment to bring out the wood grain.

primer is porous by design, slap some cheap paint on it you can sand it off when you get ready.

Normally I'd agree. But its red oxide, my rig is garage kept and its about to be summer time. I'm not too concerned.

For the more mechanically inclined, yes.

But its me we're talking about here. Usually everything I'm doing mechanically, I'm usually doing it for the first time. Everyone has to start out somewhere.

Paint and body guy; Yes, to an extent. (Although I haven't worked in a professional paint shop in almost 20 years)

Mechanically inclined; Not even close. :n:

Got a coat of paint on the seat frames and gas tank, hopefully I'll get the tank and seats installed this weekend. I wan't going to paint them so soon but they were already primed and needed zero further repair, so I figured what the hell.

That looks great. Is that a 1/3-2/3 seat or is that large one the rear seat? Or is it close to the camera making it look wider?

    I don't know what that means, 1/3-2/3?

Closest seat is the back seat. The passenger seat is shorter than the other. (Or maybe its the other way around)

Got it - Thanks. On some later front seats the driver has a bucket and the passenger side has a 2/3 bench seat which creates a full bench.

    Parts drying . . .

Tailgate is lumpy, but I decided not to fix it. My thought process, I'll buy a new one that will live on the Jeep most of the time, and this one will have holes drilled into to mount a Jerry can and spare tire. That was it will be my off roading tailgate, leaving the new tail gate for around town and parade duty.

Nice and it looks so flat. Mine is bowed out slightly because of the fender rash. Hopefully when I get this far I can stand on it and flatten it out.

Had a bit of a SNAFU this week. Painted my fenders and I had them laying on the saw horses in my garage to dry. My 14 month old German Malinois puppy (who sleeps in his kennel in the garage) slipped his kennel and I woke up the next morning to my freshly painted fender lying on the floor dented and scratched. So I had to touch them back up and now the fenders and hood are drying.

If it pleases the jury, here is peoples exibit A and a picture of the suspect . . .
