If you can't find one local or on this board contact R&P at 503-557-8911. They sometimes have them made or long ones cut down for replacements.

Oh well, I decided to have a custom 44 built by Currie. It will be wide-trac width and I can reuse my gears and Detroit in it. Plus I can get new shafts custom made by them for $200.

Placed order this morning by phone. They have the housing in stock and should ship middle of next week.

Order includes housing, new tubes using Ford 9 inch ends, New 11 inch brake assembly for both ends, 2 custom made shafts and all the seals/bearings etc to put it all together $1300.

I will reuse the detroit and gears from my current 44.

It'll be interesting to see how they hold up. Seems like CroMo's are stiff enough that quite a few folks have been breaking them.

I have never so much as twisted a spline on the stock shafts that were in the Jeep when I got it so I am not really worried about the strength of the shafts.

Based on where the axle bent I believe the main contributing factor was the 2.5" spacer that I run to bring the wheels out to WT width. I think it provided enough leverage while on a very hard trail to bend the axle between the bearing and the outside end of the shaft. This is why I decided to have a custom axle built to WT specs.

Not bad for running it that way for 4 years on some pretty nasty trails.
