I came across a very old listing for a 73 Super Jeep from a random google search on another item I was looking for. Checking out the pics because it is way cool... and to see if it helped me figure out some things on my build. And the center console caught my eye. Cool jeep too. 100% original per listing.

(Side note.... I saw my first Super Jeep last week local here in Charlotte. VIN confirmed with that 05596 SSRO number. But in horrible condition, and PO painted over in Black, chopped up the fenders, and tried to lower it with reverse suspension blocks. Going to help the owner restore it back to stock.)

Clearly the console in pic is not something from a stock 76+ CJ, or any modern aftermarket stuff. But it looks like it just "fits" great there, almost a stock look and feel. Can anyone shed light on this? Could it still be in production? Need to figure something out so my Coffee cup has a place to live...and want it too look 'OEM'.

Obviously made for a Jeep, the way it matches the seat contour. My guess would be an aftermarket part from back in the day....JC Whitney type part.

X2. That is an aftermarket piece. I've seen those back in the '80s.

Side note on that Jeep. The fender flares on there, from what I was told, are not original.

They actually are....well sorta original. In 73/74 the dealer would install the fender flares. But used just a weird roll of rubber. My '74 has the exact same generic rubber flares. Not really sure where the dealer got them. Some time half way through '74 the factory went to the normal flares that are "molded" and have the front light cut outs. Think by 75 they were standard OEM. Not sure when they went to that style in '74. Bit disappointed mine didn't have the molded versions, my jeep manufactured Aug 73... BUT I did end up finding almost new original OEM molded flares from a 75. 50/50 whether I'll switch to them or keep my generic rubber. But would love to find that center console...anyone have one flip me a note :)

Aha! I have those generic style on my 72 Renegade. Well, 3 out of 4... I was told that they weren’t original, but maybe they were then.
The center console is pretty sweet. I wish Jeep stuff was as readily available as old VW stuff.

Those rubber flares are an aftermarket product intended for big trucks and trailers. Hardly weird, just what was available. Before the molded plastic flares, Jeep Corp would supply that as a kit. You could (still can) buy the material in bulk - my dealership would buy the bulk material and undercut the Jeep Corp kit price.

SuperJeep may have been delivered with those flares. Pretty sure Rens were not, though I'm not certain.

how do they mount to the fender? I would like to install new ones. I have holes on the lip inside the wheel wells and don't want to drill any new holes if i don't have to. thanks

Mine each have a strip of thin metal, maybe 1" wide, by the length of the fender's. The wheel well's hole on the lip align to this metal strip's bolt holes. This is used to sandwiched the rubber and the body. Guess it provides support to the rubber. I can take a pic if you need to source those. Then small threaded fender clips on each of the wheel well's holes, and then I believe a hex head w/ captured washer holds in place, but maybe course phillips screw. I forget off hand. I can check that in a bit if you need me too...mine are in a zip lock bag in the garage.

My memory of this is fleeting ... I think they were held on with screws, directly into the lip of the fender. I recall a strip of steel maybe, and that would make sense. I know that it took some care to install them. With careless installation, you'd get compression of the rubber at every screw, and the line along the fender would not be straight.
