Very cool, no idea they were building Jeep’s for 1974 as early as July 73

Back then the line changeover happened mid-summer, so the factories could build enough vehicles to supply all the dealers with inventory of new models in time for the big reveal. The CJ-5 was little changed 1973 to 1974, so I expect they could get right to building them once the official changeover date was reached. The rest of the factory needed the time - The 2WD DJ and the Commando were gone for 1974, and the Wagoneer and J-trucks changed a lot. Plus there was a new model, the Cherokee.

September was an important month in those days: school started again, the new TV season started, and the new cars were revealed/released.

Here's a nice little find...Ebay. I can't really tell if it is just a reprint. But i'm 90% sure it is real. Couple notes on the front in pen, and a few random inside lead me to believe it might be real. Either way cool. A side...funny that it barely fits in the glove box !

I completely forgot to post this up earlier. But I had the original carb rebuilt. The only thing somewhat local to Charlotte...The Old Carb Doctor....true craftsman of the carb rebuild! I had to get in line (8-mnts) and he restored the original and did his magic on it. Yeah I know I didn't have to. Could have found this on Ebay or run it as is. But a 46 yr old carb needs a bit of work. In fact I did get one from some place because I didn't know when I'd get my carb back. So had 'just in case'. But everything worked out and picked up my carb a few months ago. I did convert it to Electric choke.

Monday was suppose to be the day that the body shop picks up the jeep again to "Gap" the front clip. But as 2020/21 struggles with Covid! The body shop got hit. So they are all in isolation, and now closed for 10-days. Hope all will be well with the guy that tested positive. I'll wait. Next week if all clear they pick up and finish the roll bar, front clip, gapping, and 'Renegade' decal. Also, I am finally dropping the seats off to the upholsterer. Can't wait to finally have seats!!!!

It can't be all about Jeeps! O-H I-O....
Championship game tomorrow...hope for another repeat against Bama (2015)! All said we'd lose then. And saying same again now. Hope not. But will be a tough one for sure either way! Let's play the game to see. And wow the Browns won a playoff game against their arch rivals...

Edit: Well that didn't go as planned (again).

Haven't posted in a bit. Lot of things going on with the jeep. Stopped over at the body shop. It's Decal Day.... So the rolling chassis was picked up the other week. They're doing all the body work, paint, final fitting of the front clip (gapping), windshield glass install, and the main Decal (Phoenix Graphics). Which they were putting on today. Things are finally coming together. This is the first time I've seen it with the entire body on the jeep. Very Excited! Is it stupid that I cried a few tears and was very emotional! Well I was... Few punch list items for them to do. Seats are still at the upholsterer. More bolts/parts are at the Zinc plating shop. Couple things getting re-powder coated after I didn't like the results. Should have those parts back tomorrow.

Left to do when it comes back from shop: finish wiring the starter circuit, Ignition Module (converted to 76+ ignition), and test all the wiring out. Then install bumpers, side steps, hubs, seats, fender flares, start it up, and front end alignment. After all that... still have to rebuilt the winch, either the original Bellview or an 8274 I picked up. Not sure which yet. And figure out a soft top/doors...holding hope I'll find a '74 white Witco...but not my breath!

    Someone asked...those are 31x10s BFGs.

You are allowed to shed a tear or two, goes well with the blood and sweat, question for you, why not go with a painted stripe, wears so much better, nostslgia? Your Jeep is looking fantastic

Painted Strip??? Not sure I know what you mean. If you are talking the "Renegade" decals on the side of hood and down the Cowl, they weren't done yet. They just started the hood decals when I stopped over. The full decals will get done for sure.

They were a decal from the factory. Don't paint them on. I've seen them painted on, it looks bad in the end in my opinion. Like a big neon sign saying "This is WRONG". It is supposed to be a flat finish decal above the 'gloss' of the paint. There are two companies that I have researched who decal the Renegades. Only Phoenix is correct on the '74. The other require you to 'cut' the decal where the "Jeep" is. Or they sell a '74 which is really for the late '74/75 that has 45* angle not the correct 90* angle. It also eliminate the white pinstriping above and below the Jeep which Phoenix keeps. Just research a bit more and I highly recommend the Phoenix Graphics for our '74s.

My brother bought a 1974 renegade in 1975, it was renegade yellow, 304, 3 speed, I THINK light tan interior, it could be a twin to yours. It was completely stock except for a large round decal on the left front fender that read, blue tick coon hunters. He sold it in 1977, last we heard it went down south, you never know, it may be the same one.

From what I understand they only made about 4300 of these Yellow Renagades in 74, of course the way these have been treated over the years I’m sure there are very few left. I bought mine in all original condition two yrs ago in Elbe Washington. It did have an 8274 warn on the front and I got a sweet half cab with doors with it, the half cab will be the icing on the cake when I’m done, It’ll look like a mini scrambler. No such decal on it but you never know.

You never know ... Is right! Mine didn't have any decal like what you described. And was manufactured in late '73. Sold early '74. But one day you might find it again. If you do...Please buy it back. Restore it and keep the story going.

    .
I'd love to see a few pics of your Half top/doors installed on your '74. While I live a bit too south for a hard top due to rather warm winters and crazy hot summers. I have wondered what tops I could source that would work... Wonder how that half cab would work with the rear seat so close. Assume your half cab top was original to a CJ-6/8 and prior owner just put it on? I'm 99.9999% sure they did not roll off the line with a Half Cab. BUT they should have ;) . I have no tops that are OEM for now. Just an old BestTop that came with the jeep. Looking for the holy grail of a white Witco with the '74 tag. Keeping my eye out for one. But have toyed with the idea of a Half Top-Hard Top. Oh by the way Renegade has a "E".... Not an "A". It's CJ-5 RenEgade.... not "RenAgade".

I will show mock ups with the top on when I get that far, I think it’s a Kelly cab, no the cab is not original to this Jeep, it just came with the sale. I haven’t seen many 1/2 cabs, looks really cool, three window in back, roll bar obviously is still outside when mounted. I was thinking flat black, you would go with white? That was my first inclination but sometimes the wife wins!

It's a Renegade again! I have to figure something on the front clip's alignment out. Feel like the hood gap to Driver fender is a bit off. Just can't seem to figure out what to move, as you move one thing another gap opens up a bit. Mean time, waiting for some parts to get back from powder coating, and zinc plating. Then can finish assembling the windshield, bumpers, and a few odd and ends. Seats are still at the upholsterer, that's the next big thing to get done. Getting close though.
