Finished mocking up the exhaust. Was pretty proud of myself and was about to break out the welder when I realized I had given absolutely no thought to where the parking brake hardware runs.

So, I will leave everything slip fitted until I can see where the exhaust might be in the way. Hopefully tomorrow I can dig through boxes of parts and find the e-brake parts and try to remember where they went.

    I got the interior primed,
    [IMG]
and then a first coat down on the firewall and interior. My plan is to hit the interior and the underside with the brushable seam sealer where needed, and then another coat of paint/undercoating.

Not sure I am digging the color, but my youngest daughter liked it on a small sample chip. Hopefully she will like it in large quantities when she gets back home. At this stage I feel like I need to just get it finished. I've already gone through half a dozen colors that I changed my mind on.

When I am not breathing paint fumes (I do use a mask) I have been trying to read up on which parts of the stock wiring harness will be used, or modified to work with the GM engine/computer stuff. Stand alone harnesses seem appealing but they are pricey and from some things I have read, are not really necessary.

That blue looks like it could be a period correct type color. Nothing wrong with that.
But that forest service green looked exceptionally good on that 6. Just my .02

Love the blue! But it would be hard not to paint it forest service green. I think you'll be ok on the e brake routing, the cables mount to the bottom of the tub, if I remember correctly.

Unfortunately, I agree with both of you guys about the Forest Service Green. The truth is, this one is going to be used by my daughter(s) a lot so I am catering toward their likes (hence the th400). I still have the Dauntless powered GPW to call mine.

While babysitting a two year old, I managed to get the seam sealer on. I have never used any before and bought Eastwood's "brushable" sealer. It isn't all that brushable, but it does fill seams, and is supposed to be paintable. After the first few inches, I decided to quit trying to make it pretty and just made sure I was sealing seams. On the underside (no pictures of the underside), it seemed to be melting the rubberized undercoating. Hopefully it won't make a difference once it has cured.

I have noticed that the pictures always seem to look better than the subject in real life. So, in case anyone thinks I know what I am doing I am including a picture of the underside of the hood. I really wanted to get the underside done so that it could cure and then when I did the top I could just set it on some saw horses. I ended up mixing more than enough to do the underside of the hood. No problem, I will just lay it on thick. Don't want to waste paint. I ended up with two of the most horrific runs that I have ever seen. One on each side, as long as the hood and wide as a nightcrawler in places. The picture doesn't do its horribleness justice.
I should have just wasted the paint in the cup.
Since the weather has been nice I am going to try to push the body/paint stuff forward. Stripping the grill, lots of rust...

Mostly boring stuff, but I am trying to keep documenting any progress regardless of how little, or how many steps back I take.

When front is engage is will close the circuit so a light can be use to show front engage.

As for the rear it will only close the circuit when in neutral so if you want a light to show rear engage you will need to use a close type relays that will open when a 12v is applied to it.

Could another groove be filed into the shift rod?

Thanks for the information. So, with that type of relay, The light for the rear would light up any time it was not in neutral?

exactly....other way it will light up only on neutral.

It could be done....but you need to tare the transfert case appart so you can mod the shift rail.

I've done a similar job on the rear shift rail to take away the little ramp for the rear low so i got a better hold when i use only the rear (twin stick)

Is there any chance you can give me an example of the type of relay I am looking for for the rear indicator? I looked at some relay sites online and did nothing but confuse myself as to wiring that switch. Would a standard 5 pin relay have the function I need? They seem to have one terminal that is normally open.

Actually, the good weather is going to be a problem. I have been getting away with not working on the house or yard due to the bad weather.

It was so nice outside today that I even primed the hood, grill, and dash, outside, in plain view of all the people driving to the school next door that could report me to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (a real thing).
Once the primer cooked off, I brought everything back inside to hit it with some paint. In case anyone is wondering, my plan is to get at least some color on all of the major components, get it bolted together, get it running, and then color sand the whole rig and shoot it again with a little more attention to detail. Here is what I got accomplished today (if you don't count spending more money on parts via the internet and the local Napa store).
    Dash stripped...
    primered parts moved inside...
parts hit with color, and dust, and dirt, and small bugs that don't know where to land...
and with what was left in the cup, shot over the seam sealer I brushed on yesterday. The paint may or may not stick, I didn't scuff it before shooting it again.

Nice CJ6 project. Your colour is almost identical to my CJ5!

Looking great! The Shasta blue color looks good and was one that I was thinking on my 6, after I saw it on a jeep a while back. With white wagon wheels and an white top, it will pop!

I have sort of moved to a different color. It looks like my 6 was originally white, so I make go an ivory white, but then there is always Petty blue.

You need a 5 pin relays like this one

    84-1076.jpg

Normaly you will use the 87 pin for anything you want to power when the relays is activated by a 12v + source. In you're case you will wire the light to the 87a pin so it get power when relays is off and cut the power when relays is activated.

Thanks very much! That is what I needed to know. I bought two little lights yesterday. If it works out, I intend to install them under the decal that shows the twin stick operation schematic. One light below each shifter image.

Thanks for the picture. It actually makes me feel better seeing what it looks like with the contrast against the tires and steering column. I haven't figured out what is going to cover the shifter holes yet but if I build a cover I may paint it black like yours too. Right now it looks like a whole lot of blue.

My tub had a white layer under all the green, but the dash did not. I had toyed with the idea of using white, but then I would have wanted black rims and that could start some controversy on here.
