Washer Bag and Jack Questions

Ever striving for an accurate restoration of my 72 I'm looking for a source or a picture of both the washer bag and the OEM jack.

I understand that the jack was a scissors type. Are these available or do people just get a generic aftermarket jacks? I also gather that the washer bag and manual pump was a pos but I'll at least try to get things right. I actually have the original rubber hose and stopper and the pump seems to work.

Nothing say's Archaic Retromobile than a quaint washer bag.

 

What year did they change from the washer bag to the bottle with the electric pump? My 74 had the bottle and the parts list shows it for 74.

 

I'm not a betting man but I know that if you went to the search area and typed in "windshield washer bag", you will get a few pics.

I don't know when they changed to a bottle and electric pump but I know the 72 had the manual setup. I was cleaning about a half inch of crud off the drivers side wheel well and uncovered an area where the paint was rubbed off. Then I noticed the two clips mounted on the fender and it was obvious that thats where the washer bag hung. More archeology.

 

That's interesting. I guess in 72 AMC was still in the process of converting the CJ's to use AMC off the shelf parts. I think I have heard somewhere that the heater controls in the 72 are also different from the rest of the intermediates. Do you have a picture of the manual pump setup? I'd love to see how it worked.

 

Yes, the '72 heater controls are different. The dash knobs are different too - basically the same as '70 and '71. The rubbery knobs with the plastic heater panel started in 1973.

Don't recall about the washer bag - but I'm not surprised that a '72 would have the same washer/wiper parts as a '71.

It is a cool setup. the line from the bag runs under the dash to the pump, and from the pump out the sprayer.

Thanks for the pictures guy's. I'm amazed that those enema bags are still intact. Both Shank and tlacky bags even has the supply line and stopper, all ready for bug season.

Is there any Jeep logo or graphic on the bag? Now I know what one looks like I'll keep my eyes open for one at swap meet or junk yard.

 

I don't have any markings on the bag that I can see, Pete.

I did however, get my washer to work today...flushed it out, put fresh washer fluid in, pumped it a few times and it worked! I never even tried it before. I just assumed at 40 years old, it wouldn't work. Amazing!

It works, I love it. Hand powered, one moving part. That's why I love the old things.

 

Good picture Uncamonkey (may I call you Unca?) Wonder if that's an original or replacement? I wouldn't be surprised if AM just bought off the shelf items like that and saved 25 cents not having Jeep stenciled on it. The fact that it's a Trico product makes it much easier to find a replacement. Cool.

 

It's actually off of my '69 Commando but it's what I remember to be the same as the CJ's of the era.
