V6 Hinged gas pedal

Is there anyone with pics of their gas pedal setup with something other then the original. I would think a hinged pedal on the floor like the 4 cyl models would be the way to go. It's too touchy, and on longer drives, your foot and ankle cramp up. there has to be a better way!!!

I used a 1994 Nissan Sentra gas pedal. It is prefect to use with the GM throttle cable. I use able to use one of the floor plate bolts to attach it.

 

I was using a CJ5 V6 pedal for years and had the same problems, especially in the rocks. Made this.

 

Full size Chevy truck with V-8. I fabed the mount.

 

I mounted it to this hole in the floor plates. (Egor the Ford oil Pan.)

I did have to weld a stop-tab on the mount. This is to keep the pedal from hitting the firewall.

Isn't that a suspended pedal? I thought that was what the OP wanted to eliminate. :?

 

I am not sure if the OP wanted a hinged pedal or not. My 71 v6 came with the pedal that "hinges" on 2 pivot balls at the bottom, but it is not very comfy either. On long trips I have my right foot resting on the side of my left foot laying under it.

 

I know , but it is so comfortable. You heal rests on the floor and it's the perfect height off the floor.

 

Duffer has the setup I'm thinking of.....hinged to the floor to allow your foot/heel to stay steady against the floor and pedal. Duffer? Do you have any shots of the pedal hinge on the firewall? Also...how do you have the pedal connected to the linkage...thanks

 

Didn't some V6 Jeeps come with floor-mounted gas pedal? Maybe it was the Commando... I put a mid-60s Wagoneer gas pedal in my '73 CJ-5 (long ago). I bent the existing parts to contact the groove in the back of the Wagoneer pedal.

Supposedly the suspended pedal is safer, because it's less likely to get hung up or tangled in floor mats and such.

Yep. My 70 is the same as Grants. Works well except it sticks to your boot when you get too much mud on them. To the point that it can come up off of the two ball studs which can be a bit awkward when you're in the middle of trying to get past an obstacle.

 

I did the same as Scott but used one from a GM car. Heat and bent it where comfortable. Works very well. I got rid of the one that was hinged to the floor. Too much issue with mud causing it to stick or be unpredictable.

 

Machined a 2 bolt bearing block that mounts to firewall (somewhat visible in above pic) with a shaft mounted bellcrank. The top portion of the bell crank has a machined slot so I can adjust the throw, with just a 1/4" aluminum rod and bearing ends for the throttle body linkage. The portion of the bellcrank extending below the pedal has a bushed acetal copolymer (similer to Delrin) roller on it-same material I made the fairlead rollers from.

Thanks alot Duffer.....nice fab job on it. My idea also has the small rollers under the pedal. It was the firewall mounting and linkage that had me stumped. Makes a big difference seeing it for "reals". Nice work, and thanks for the pics.
