Already have complaints on my '12 JK 4dr

It's too bad subaru hasn't addressed this issue in production. For all intents and purposes they are building a 250 - 300K engine with 100K head gaskets. One of the reasons I won't be buying another one.

 

I can't say I can compare the 3.8 with the 3.6 as this is the first new jeep I've driven and now own. I will say the toyota iforce v8 I've driven over the last 8 years in 2 Tundras swamps this little v6, but I'm comparing apples to oranges. What I can say is that I did notice that when I'm on interstate going 70 with the cruise on, it doesn't change gears when going up a sizeable hill....must be the horsepower.

I bought a lift kit for the new Jeep that should be in any day now. I got the Terraflex 2.5 budget boost. They seem to have the best reviews and they are the first company to tackle the exhaust spacing issue on the '12s with a simple spacer fix. In case you are wondering what that is and are planning on buying a new jeep and lifting it, you need to watch this

I just drove the new jeep up to the store, came home and drove the cj5 out to take some movies back.....oh yea, the cj headlights are way brighter

 

I had the 07 JK 4-door. I never had issues with leaks or whistling; but, closing the doors...YES! I hated the doors on that thing.

 

The spacer kit it literally just 2 sections of exhaust pipe stock with a male bell flange on one end and a female on the other. The key to it though is the length. That's where the engineering comes in.

I did have a problem with this kit though. They put 4 longer replacement bolts the same length in the box. There were two problem with this.

Problem 1: With the size of the bolt heads and the diameter of the holes in the exhaust flange, you could pull the bolt heads through the exhaust flange. This is one of the reasons washers were invented and why they didn't put some in there is beyond me. No big deal though, I just went a bought some.

Problem 2: The longer spacer goes on the passenger side and the shorter on the driver's side. The bolts fit and work fine on the passenger side. Problem with the driver side is the threaded portion of the bolt isn't threaded far enough down the bolt. Once you start tightening them up, you run out of threads before it tightens down...result? exhaust leak. Fix? I bought another 2 bolts with thread all the way on the shank

I actually called TerraFlex about this and they said: "Yes, we are aware of those problems. We can't find a supplier with the correct shorter bolts as the one needed is inbetween sizes. Just stack up some washers on the driver side."

If the bolts were "all thread," the length wouldn't be a problem. I went to a fastener supply house and told him the problem and he agreed about the length and said I needed one the same size that was all thread. He went to a huge box filled with them. He got me washers too.

I'm a nobody and I found the right bolts in 20 minutes.....not a big deal, but if you know there is a problem why not fix it. Additionally, when you have a kit that probably costs on the conservative side, say $1 and you sell it for $60, how much would it cost to include 4 flat washers

 

The only two problems we've had with our 3.8 since purchase has been 1) Oil consumption - switch to 10w30 and solved the problem, and 2) cracked driver's side exhaust manifold due to heat cycling - was surprisingly easy to R&R. Now changing the trans filter, OTOH.

Interested to test drive this Pentastar now.

 

Ok, got the whistling fixed.

All ye who buy new Wranglers and have thy windshield replaced--->

When they drop in the glass, it MUST-MUST-MUST be the proper spacing from the top edge of the glass to the windshield frame. It MUST be measured. I don't know what that measurement is as I didn't ask, but if you have that problem, have your glass shop look it up. You can't tell the difference either way by just looking at it.

If you have had the glass replaced, and it didn't whistle, the installer either measured or he got lucky setting it in the correct spot.
