I have a dana 44 reaer axle, i I put new seal and bearings on the axle shaft. When I put the axle shaft back in it does not just slide in all the way. What is the best way to get in.

don't force it. the end may not be entering the spider. try to get the shaft to be parallel to the housing, and twist gently to align the splines.

Yes, do as Wally says, try to engage the splines and then if you are still not able to get it in all the way, use a dead blow hammer and help seat the outer race of the bearings. It should just go in without a problem.

You are trying to line up the splines on the end of the axle into the spider gear in the center of the diff. You need to lift the end of the shaft in there just slightly to find the center where the gear is, as well as rotate it to align the splines. It may take a little patience; just don't force it.
