I was checking universals and noticed both front axle shafts moved when I tried moving them. universals are tight. I'm thinking this is not normal. I know I'll need to replace seals, is there any thing else I should get before tearing into this. bearing? This is my DD and I don't want to be down long. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

There are torrington bearings on the inside of the spindles that the outer axle shafts ride on. Real common for these to go bad. Get a kit for each side. Should cost less than $10 IIRC per kit. Kit comes with the bearing, seal, and thrust washer. Check the wheel bearings thoroughly while you have it apart, pack them, and put in new wheel bearing seals as well. Nickmil.

73cj5, the axle shafts move up and down. Kits sound like the way to go. Probably should change the differential fluid also. Thanks nickmil.
