Brake Adjustment

    on 9 inch brakes do the adjuster cams both turn counter clockwise or clockwise

    On the driver's side the cam for the front shoe goes clockwise, the cam for the rear shoe goes counter-clockwise. The opposite of that is done for the passenger side.

    This is correct.

    There should be a picture in your FSM

    I had to read the manual so I could write it correctly. It isn't something I do on a routine basis. :D

    thanks to both . had looked in FSM and only seen where it talked about 10 inch brakes
    buddy can be hard headed unless he sees it in print (y)

    Sounds like you don't have the right manual. Factory manual for the year wouldn't show 10" brakes. Chiltons etc are useless.

    had this one for 37 years now . maybe too late for a 55 brakes

    just nothing in it about 9 inch brakes . only shows transfer case brake and 10 inch . I figured out how they adjusted . but the owner didn't agree :banghead:

    When did 10" brakes come in? None of my manuals include them.

    And my Willys trucks had the same type of adjusters, even with larger drums.
