It's seems I’m trying to climb a wall when I go to the local auto parts store and tell them I'm wanting to swap out my Carter BBD for a new Mortorcraft 2100 (1.08.) I told them that I heard the sources of this carb is from the "AMC 304". Ok now the problem, they can't seem to tell me if I would be getting the 1.08. (what I heard I need) so I don't want to get the wrong one. I also found I need an adapter plate, they can't tell me which one I need. Along with the above I still need an air cleaner assembly, throttle arm replacement (fabricated). I found all this info from the web, and parts of this forum, this will be my first try at a carb upgrade, so I need all the help I can get.

PS: I have the 258 I6 with the 2 barrel Carter BBD now.

I got lucky and found a 2100 w/108 in the small circle on the carb at a buddy's house in a bunch of old 304/360 engine parts. I took it to a rebuild shop, cost $99 bucks and it looks brand new, bought an adapter, air cleaner and it works Great! Good luck trying to find one, it's well worth it to find one. Here's a link http://www.cjoffroad.com/writeup.asp?WU_ID=16&noAdd=1 that might help, and I'm sure this bunch will chime in with some good info on this swap.

WOW ! Thanks for all the info........ I'll be checking wrecking yards this week for the carb. I'll take pictures as I go and post some details on a website. I have never rebuilt a carb, should I have that part done or is it pretty basic ?

    thanks,
    Dave

I rebuilt mine. I purchased a kit to do it. I would plan on a good sized bench to do the disassembly on and just keep things in order. The biggest issue I had was the float adj. It took a couple of tries. I would say it wasn't difficult you just need to keep things in order.

2100 is easy. Just don't forget to hook the float up so it doesn't just float away. See previous posts here for how I know.

I had my 2100 rebuilt, it was a nasty looking site when I took it in. They bead blasted it, flow tested it, and was ready to bolt on when I got it home all for $99.95. (and it looks better than a new one!) I also bought a rebuild kit for $15 before I decided to have it done by some pros, I have rebuilt a ton of carbs and this one looks as simple as any. Guess I save the kit for next year.......

    Jeeper,

How does it perform? I have a BBD on my son's 258 and it won't run worth a darn.
