I agree, everything I've ever read says to leave them alone. If you can't clear the passages with solvent & compressed air it's time for either a replacement carb or send it to the professionals.

Those aren't "clean out" plugs. Those are drilled passages that are plugged and crimped over at the time of manufacture and were not intended to be serviced.

Was in the process of doing a total rebuild of the carb and had new ones. If everyone thinks it’s not advised I’ll just clean inside the ports

Wow, that's really small - I can't see anything. The site will accept much larger. 800x600 is a good size for posting.

Rebuilt the carb and having a major brain fart. Does the throttle body have a threaded vacuum port? Nothing was ever hooked up to mine or plugged so I Nefertiti’s noticed it.

If you don't need to use it you can certainly just plug it like you mentioned. Mine don't have a pcv setup but maybe it's for that? Someone will know.

Going back to the picture...The plug on the lower-left, in the throttle body, can be left in place. The passages in the bowl casting are there for a reason. They balance vacuum and fuel flow. If these passages are blocked internally by decades of accumulation of dust, dirt, carbon, and gas which turned to shellac, and the rare but not unknown insect nest, this balance will be disrupted and poor performance, if it runs, can be expected. These passages need to be cleaned. That's why the new plugs are included in the kit.

PCV connects to intake manifold and not to throttle base. The vacuum port in the throttle body is for a vacuum advance distributor and must be plugged for a mechanical advance distributor.
