IMG_0414.JPG Hello all, last week I replaced my head gasket due to a coolant leak on the front of my f 134 block, while I was at it I replaced my intake valve seals and checked intake valves and guides all were in spec per FSM. Cleaned valves and head. Put everything back together ran great. Fast forward to this weekend drove 70 miles to county fair drove fine a little hesitation on off idle figured no biggie. Used 2 quarts of oil. No leaks. Checked compression got 100,95,95,60. No change adding oil. Checked cold and hot. Plugs have fine carbon powder on them. I know #4 is low valve maybe, I'll look at it. What bothers me is the oil consumption. Am I right with adding oil my numbers should gone up if rings were shot? Thanks Jon.

    PCV system/valve?

Do you have dual (combo fuel/vacuum) pump? Bad diapraghm or seal on the vacuum side?

NOS fuel pump? Does your oil smell like gas? Diaphragm could be leaking gas into the crankcase.

Ok, next question is did you check compression before changing the head gasket? What is your history with the Jeep? Is the engine maybe just worn out and needs a rebuild? Does it smoke? A little bit? A bunch? No need to worry about mosquitos as long as the Jeep runs?

I didn't check compression, jeep was running good, hard to tell about smoke not that I noticed. It leaked oil, I've been fixing leaks. I just finished fixing leaks. As for history 3rd owner all stock 58. It was flat towed a lot or so I was told, 38,000 on the odometer. As far as I can tell motor has never been apart except what I have done. Head gasket etc.

Is the inside of the tailpipe really black and nasty? The oil can only go a couple places.

When you had the head off did you happen to notice had any stamping on top? If over size they would have the size stamped... .010, .020 etc. What weight oil do you have in it?

Have you checked the oil level again since? Just wondering if something was keeping it from returning to the pan and it was pooling somewhere.
