anyone have any reason to believe 140wt GL3 would be a poor decision in my T90/Dana18? 4527327F-042A-417C-B4B8-8BCF847D4C3B.jpeg

LOL this is hilarious. I bought one each left and right. They arrived unmarked in any way. I emailed asking which was which. "Pretty sure they're interchangeable". I tried installing them and it was super hard to get them lined up. Must be switched. Reversed them. Still super hard to line up. I forced them in. Now whenever I backup I get a wicked shudder. The internet says "Misalignment of drivetrain." Hmm.

I measured the engine mounts and found them to be identical in every dimension but one. Seriously though. Different part numbers, but not identified when shipped, just stuffed in the box.

I discovered the same setup on my 1966. Seems as if it was a pretty common repair back in the day - if you see a straight-cut (not spiral cut) main shaft inside your transmission, you have T90 "guts" in a T86AA case, with a T90 control tower/shift forks.

I'm not sure that's a sign of T-90 gears. Top covers don't necessarily bear the same casting numbers as cases. Common for a T-18 to have a T-98 top cover casting, for example.

The T-90 gears in a T-86 case is more of a modern repair than an in-the-day repair. T-86 gears existed then; not so much now. Lots of threads here about this.

My T90's case is stamped T90A and the top cover is stamped T90C. Not sure what to make of that if anything.

Good point. I guess I thought that the difference in the cases meant that once you installed a T90 main shaft (straight cut) in a T86AA case you couldn't keep the T86 control tower?

Don't know exactly. However, the T-86 case has the same dimensions as a T-90 case except for the front bolt pattern, AFAIK. Has to, for the T-90 innards to fit. Maybe I'm missing something subtle, but I would not be surprised if Borg-Warner used the T-90 shift top casting for the T-86.

Good to know thanks. Oh and also when I opened mine up for the rebuild it had a date stamped repair tag of 1981, to me that was “back in the day” cause I was three! Ha!

ordered a new D18 front yoke from KW. It is much bigger than my old one. Any ideas? Did I just order the wrong one? I don’t see a different one online

Maybe the difference between an f-head yoke and a dauntless one? If I remember correctly, the dauntless had a smaller u-joint to clear the bellhousing

That would make sense. KW usually caters to the 4 cyl by default.
