As I start to roll forward I get an initial thunk. I guess that would be the proper way of explaining the sound. There are no other funny noises while I drive it is just on initial roll forward. Any ideas on what this may be?

Rear wheel bearings will make clunking noises when they are failing. U-joints, mounts, spring eye bushings, spring u-bolts ... lots of sources for noises.

I'd jack up the rear wheels one a time and do a hand wiggle test.
grab top and bottom and wiggle
bad bearing, broken wheel hub, loose axle nut, etc
