I read in different places the dana 30 pinion is weak when you run deep gears like 4.56 and beyond. D25 and d27 usually have 4.88 and 5.38 never read anything about pinion issues with these. What gives?

I believe the concern is the size of the pinion and the tooth count. A guy I ride with runs a m38 with a 30 front and 5.38's, he does some hard stuff an hasn't broke the front yet, Ron

D-25/27 are better in the R&P department from what I've read and have been told by differential guys. I personally do not know the facts though. But they do say if you buy a top quality R&P you will be just fine. Yukon, G2, Nitro, and revolution are a few good brands. Sadly, most of the Dana stuff is no longer made in the USA. I recently bought a NOS Dana 30 R&P and am going to have it Cryogenic treated.

The tooth count also makes the pinion weaker. A 4:27 is stronger than the 5:38
