The TDC marks on the crank and timing cover need to match - ie. 225 crank and 225 cover, everything matches. IF you have a 225 crank and a 231 cover (which I have on my Kenne Bell motor), the TDC marks are off by 18* so you either have to make a new mark (like I did) or account for it in the timing of the motor.

I got my TA Performance timing chain cover on after various issues (including using the only 225 gasket stocked in Hawaii and had to mail order a second when I had to pull the cover back off). The metal bolt on timing mark it came with, part #TA1341, lines up with zero on the dampener mark on my existing dampener. Part number description states intended for oddfire, wont work with evenfire.

Searching old threads for my answer.

Putting new chain on 231 the marks are not aligned well. Doesn’t seem to be any other way to put this together than how I have it?

    What do y’all think?

How come? Just pull it back off, rotate the crank until the marks line up.

Yes, pull the chain off, mount the gears, rotate so the dots line up, then put it all back including the chain.
