I am new to owning and operating a Jeep. I bought a 1968 CJ5 with the Dauntless 225 V6 engine with the thought of working on a project and eventually enjoying it in my retirement on trail rides here in the Arizona desert. I have been working on cars and airplanes for most of my life, so I'm not a newbie to mechanics. I have been following this forum for a couple of months and am impressed with the wealth of knowledge and willingness of its members to share that knowledge. It's good to be here.

In my efforts to get my new project running I have finally run across an issue that has me stumped. I had to replace a piston because it had a hole in it that looked like someone shot it with a 22 bullet. In the process of replacing the piston I am having the heads rebuilt. The problem I and the machine shop that is doing the rebuild have come across is trying to locate replacement valve spring keepers. The shop has identified the required keepers as a SBI part number 121-1016. I cannot even find a reference to this part number anywhere not to mention a replacement part. Can anyone help me in finding the right keepers for the Dauntless. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Suggest calling TA Performance in Scottsdale, they seem to have a lot of components for the 225

    TA Performance likely has them.

The 300/340/350 V8 keepers may work, but they don't cross to the V6 in the listing. TA Performance will know.

Thank you for the info. It would be great to have a local supplier. I'll let you know if they have the parts.

TA Performance was able to help me out. They have the stock valve spring retainer keepers for the 225 V6 Odd-Fire. The part is the 11 degree 11/32 Keeper. The part number is: TA_V1434D.

Thanks for the help. I was getting desperate in my search.

This is the reason for the cylinder head work. Thought I had a head gasket leak so I pulled the heads. What I found was a hole in the #2 piston. Looks like someone shot it with a .22. That explained the crankcase pressure. So one thing led to another. New piston and overhauled heads. This website and everyone’s willingness to share their wealth of knowledge with a nonjudgmental attitude is enabling. My wife doesn’t necessarily think enabling is such a good thing when it comes to airplanes, old cars, jeeps, or guns. Thanks.
