In California no one MERGE they turn on their blinker and get on freeway doing 45..55..mph pick their noses ,dial the cell phone, then they punch it and cut across three lanes and are gone. Here in Calif people think if they turn the blinkers, you HAVE to let them in the lane

if i had to buy a bellhousing/clutch kit and disc etc.(it ended up being 7 different items)
    $1452.50
that is for a buick 231 mated to my t-98/d18

Hmm - I didn't find it all on there, but then they know thier parts better than I do... However, that price makes me reach around my backside and say 'owwie, owwie - a little vasaline please next time'...

Re-reading - if that clutch and that maybe not as bad... Will have to compare that with what I am figureing for a T-18. Don't think it will be that much all said and done though.

Only problem is it's not a Chevy motor. The BOP Bell is different than a Chevy. I have found a Bell replacement setup for a Ford T18, assuming the stickout for the input shaft on the T98 is the same as the T18, I know the Jeep T18 is MUCH longer than the Ford so have to assume the same for the T98. However, that could be 'fixed' with a spacer machined out (simple main hole and 2 sets of bolt holes to the Bell and Tranny) - The part I have not been able to 'adapt' is the main shaft (input) to the Tranny. I know the one I have here has a custom clutch in it (Greg got it from a place back east), and alot of folks have told me either the T18 or NP435 is a easier/cheaper swap.

Now - I have already 'appropriated' a Ford T18 and an NP435 to use as possible swap candidates depending on the match to your T98 - click links to see specs on each and you will see the T18 is .08 higher in first and the NP435 is .28 lower in first with some other 'better' gear distribution. I did some measuring and the NP435 is very close in size to my SM465 once installed.

We will get all the facts and figures together and see where we go. I am still of the opinion that selling the T98 to finance the other is a good way to go for you - and you still get to keep the deep 4 speed gears.

I plan on talking to Herm to verify what I have found out... Oh - and I basically 'stole' the T18 and NP435s - they only need shifter canes :).

Just put a sbc in and you have all the correct numbers-just about any of the sbc's will have no merging problems:D

I've got a 225 bellhousing (the type with the GM trans pattern on the back) sitting in my backyard. If you need it I could probably be persuaded to part with it in exchange for a couple on Mexican wrestler masks:D

Just read this today. Apparently Bill is attached to his to his SLUG...
    I hope this comment helps.

You're going to run into 2 main hurdles if attempting to mate the T98 to a Jeep Dauntless bellhousing.
Maindrive length plus fore/aft engine positioning.

A T98A rear engine support crossmember is bolted exactly 5-1/2" back from the standard crossmember location.
This will put the engine into the firewall unless a 2-5/8 thick bellhousing adapter is used
behind the typical (6-3/8" deep) D-225 bellhousing.

IMHO the best solution is to lengthen the rear driveshaft by 2-1/2".
Then move the rear engine support foreward exactly half way back to the standard location which reduces propeller shaft stress.
This move re-uses two of the standard existing crossmember mounting holes.
Then you will have to bolt the T98 direct onto the D 225 bellhousing.
This is accomplished in part by changing the maindrive gear to 1-1/8" diameter and machining it to a custom lenght.
With this setup you can use original Jeep Dauntles 225 engine mounting brackets.
The AA 4.868 index bellhousing is ideal because it is 6-5/8" deep.
This positions stock D-225 engine brackets exactly in the standard location.

Bill's finances put it on hold. Not sure what the plans are, or when we will be able to do it.
