I have a cj5 73 with a 304 v8. I am not sure how the fuel lines run from the carb to the fuel tank. I think there are two lines, but not sure. Any one have ant pictures or diagrams of how the fuel lines run from the engine to the fuel tank

This what the lines are like under the hood for 1974. Should be the same. No fuel return line. fuellines.png

From the fuel pump back to the tank, you have 5/16" OD steel line that runs along the top of the frame rail to back by the tank. There is a short length of rubber hose that connects the tank to the long pipe, and the long pipe to the fuel pump.

The line arches over the clutch bellcrank.

This is a '75, which has a return line that yours does not. The fuel line you should have is the larger tubing in the foreground without wire stone guard.

Some applications need the return. Costs more to make two styles of part; they expect you to figure that out and cap the extra port for your application.

Don't use one of the rubber caps Dorman sells in a packet - they decay very quickly. Instead I'd use a piece of good-quality fuel hose and plug the end with a bolt or other such cylinder.

The generic fuel hose sold by parts stores today also falls apart quickly. If you can't get Gates hose, I'd suggest EFI-rated hose for the inaccessible connections on top of the fuel tank.

Due to the new gas with the boiling point lower now, how many of you guys added a fuel return line to your 74 cj5 304. During the intake upgrade I added a fuel pressure regulator and insulated the fuel line by just simply slipping the metal line inside a braided red clear 3/8 fuel hose where it runs next to engine to reduce heat transfer.
I have seen where guys use a dual port fuel filter to make a return line connection. has anybody done this.
