Gas Filler Tube Cover Plate

    On eBay I keep seeing a gas filler tube cover plate pop up for sale. Is this something that was standard on Jeepsters? I can't find any pre-drilled mounting holes in the bed, but the plate seems like a good idea from the factory.

    Here is a pic of my gas filler tube. There are no mounting holes in the bed to mount the cover plate as illustrated on ebay.[​IMG]

    IIRC, '69 and earlier did not have the filler cover, '70 and up did. I'd not swear by that, but I've worked on several '69's and earlier and none has the cover, while the '70 and '72 that I've seen did indeed have it.

    I'd have a hard time believing that every pre-1970 Jeepster happened to all have the cover removed and misplaced. Gotta be more to it, and it may simply be that they never had one to begin with.
