Today I noticed that gas was seeping through a rust spot of the bottom of my gas tank. I am thinking about buying a new polyethelene tank, but how can I stop the leak until then? JB Weld? :?

For a temp fix, that will work. But you'll probablly have to drain the tank to keep gas from creeping out.

You can remove the tank and fiberglass the bottom. JB Weld should work ok. The body man at the shop where I used to work always used bondo.

The cork (?) pad between the skid plate and the bottom of the tank traps water and causes rust from the outside in. My brand-new '73 fuel tank rusted through within 2 years of CA driving.

You may also want to put a can of sloshing compound in it. I'm sure that will open up another can of worms here. My father has used it for years. Peter on the other hand won't touch the stuff. Once you get the hole fixed, this stuff will form a liner of sorts on the inside of your tank.

There is a product you can get at any auto parts that comes in like a to part tube that you hand mix and put right on the leak and it works. Ive used it several times on different cars. Comes in a plastic tube and you just cut a piece off and stick it in the leaking area..
