Wear a dust mask; this is nasty.
Hold a spinning flap disc up against a spinning bench grinder, and it exposes fresh material on the disc.

I knew I've been hanging on to all my old discs for a reason.

I have two that need "the treatment" right now. Great tip!

    Good tip.

Also after working in the welding supply industry these items fall into the category "quality comes with a price". We had the cheaper ones on the shelf but our quality sellers were Walter and Norton brand. This was a little over 10 years ago keep in mind.

I finally used up all of that flap wheel that I first tried this on. The abrasive quality decreased to the point that it was absolute crap by the end, but it was still fine for deburring stuff.

A worn out flap wheel like that is perfect for using like a shrink disc.
