I'm thinking of building a small grader blade to go onto the front of my jeep. I have a myers plow, and can mount to that. My digger jeep originally had a trencher and a grader blade, but all of that was gone when I got the jeep. My 6 1/2 plow is too high and wide to grade with. I'm looking for pictures or dimensions of what would be "vintage" size. I have dual 7:00x16's on the back so pushing the grader blade shouldn't be too much of a problem

Also want to build a front scoop with similar setup. I've been looking at the Swisher ATV scoop, which is made from 14 ga, and can lift 200 lbs. Want to build one rather than buy.

I pay put the scoop on the back instead of the front. Have much more spring capacity on rear, along with the dual wheels. The coop won't get used much, just want to build one for the satisfaction of doing it. Should be easier to steer that way.

    Post pictures of ideas. Thanks

I think the issue would not be so much the size of the blade, but the weight and resistance of the soil being moved.
I have done some light dirt-work with a meyers snowplow, but I kinda used one corner at a time.

    How about this rig? :watch:

Swivel seat for the backhoe? Interesting setup but not very friendly looking when parallel parking, which I'm sure is needed a lot when using it in this manner.

Here's a couple shots of the trencher I bought from a member here. Had to sell it so, I can't go out and measure anything for you. I would think a cut down snow plow blade would be about what the dozer blade amounts to.

Rocks sink. Ice is much lighter than earth/soil/aggregate. I would expect pushing soil to be much harder on the equipment than plowing. I'd be inclined to rent earth moving equipment on occasion rather than rely on the Jeep for this. The scoop might be useful, or a drag grader if you have roads.

Ill see if i can find any pics but the brocure i saw had a short maybe 10" tall blade to push the loose dirt from the trench back into the trench
Not sure how it would do scraping hard gravel/dirt. Ill see what i can find though

Thanks for the pictures and the input guys. I have an extra Myers plow, which I can cut down to 48" wide and 12"high. I already have a home built drag grader on the back.

I'm thinking that I can use the cut down plow and add a small 12" extension to the front bottom, and remove the tilt springs and replace with winch/pulleys and latch.

I'm only looking at being able to lift and move 100-200 lbs of dirt. I'm getting too old to push a wheel barrow.

Swisher makes one for ATV, which is 48"wide, 200lb capacity, but is only 14 guage.

My diggerjeep, was probably something like the one in the Go for digger pictures. It has the two eylets on the frame under the driverseat aread to provide rear support for the grader blade.

I think the thing is "down pressure." Like a snow plow, the trencher blades (at least the one I had) does not apply down pressure. The weight of the blade is all there is. The pics of the operating digger JEEP show a front blade which can actually lift the front of the JEEP off the ground. This is down pressure.

If you are moving snow or loose soil around, the lack of down pressure is no big deal. If you are actually trying to excavate the soil, down pressure would be nice and preferred. I'm not saying you can't do it without down pressure but, you will have little/less control of the depth of cut and have to work at it more.

I sooooo want a dually set up. And the digger would be a huge bonus. I want my trencher back, too. I know where it is.

grader blade was much heaver on the two trenchers I had, 1/2" steel at least and half the height of a snow blade.

I have seen rear snow blades for Jeeps, it seems like that would be a start for a grader. My friend up North had a CJ5 with both front and back snow blades. There was a CJ5 up by my cabin that had a trencher for sale. It was a factory made one, complicated was the word for it. It had a T 90 in the box and hydraulics to work cylinders that raised and lowered the arm, and three speeds for the chain on the trencher, lots of moving parts.

I've moved a lot of dirt with my 3b with a snow plow I built from an old dirt blade I found on CL for $75.

Snow plows typically don't have much rake at the point where they meet the ground. They are nearly vertical as to scrape, not dig.

I built mine with more rake to it, because our road usually becomes a mile-long downhill ice rink. I wanted to be able to dig under the ice where other plows would just scrape over it. Works well... as long as the base under the ice is frozen. Otherwise, it doesn't know when to stop digging.

This also helps move dirt. It digs in on its own without added down pressure. It takes a delicate control of blade height, but it gets the job done.

A pair of "shoes" in back of the blade would help control the depth. That's how we plow snow on soft ground in NH.
