I got my top off of a 69 and trying to install it on a 70. It's not fitting. Seems the windshield is laid back too far. Is it possible I have a newer windshield that would lay back? It had a soft top on it. Best top but I don't know if it was for a 70 or possibly a 72-75?

How does the doors fit? that should set the windshield angle.............Windshield gaskets between different vehicles can fit differently......and allow the windshield to lay back...............a later windshield does lay back further....your old windshield frame 70-71 through 75 should be a basic rectangle...........the later frames are narrower at the top an lay back a few more degrees........Pictures

Ok. The windshield frame is a bit narrower at The top than the hardtop is.

This is with the windshield unlatched and pushed forward. The door hinge needs to go under my dash panel so for now it's facing out. And the weather strip is removed from the doors right now so they are a bit sloppy

but what you said is normal for the hard top . you have to install the windshield side filler pieces to fill the gap at top of stock windshield . yea the top needs to slide farther forward

Ok. So it sounds like I may be ok. Battery is low so my phone needs to charge. Going to head back out and try to figure out the windshield filler pieces

As Ron said the top needs to slide forward. It looks like the front should be a sort of visor .

Don't have a picture of those but usually they are formed to fit around and attach to the windshield frame and then have a lip that would help seal the inner part of the front of the door...same idea as the lip where the back and top side of the doors would close against.

So far I got the windshield unlatched and tilted forward enough to get the rear to line up. Have the rear clamped in place temporarily as well as the windshield frame to the top. Those look good but at the rear of the door opening the side piece is 3/4" high on both sides.

Is there any adjustment I can make to the windshield to bring it down? Not looking like it

No adjustment like that that I'm aware of. Do you mean the sides don't actually fit flush with the body?

Did you happen to grab the windshield that was mounted with the top on the other Jeep?

It is currently clamped in the rear and sits on the windshield and is clamped in place there as well. It is about 3/4" high at the doors on both sides.

I wonder if your windshield has extra gaskets under it? Looking at your dash picture it does appear that there is a gap at the bottom of the windshield frame? Is rubber visible there?

I submit that the windshield from the 69 is needed to mount it on your '70. The one from the '69 was probably modified to fit the top on the '69. There should not be any difference in body measurements between the two years.

There is a gap at the bottom because mine laid back further and I had to unclip it and move it forward to get the rear to line up
