Hoping someone here can help me with this as I cant seem to find any specific information anywhere on where to connect plug wire number 1 to my "CRT" HEI distributor. I know it makes a difference where you connect the #1 wire. The instruction that came with the dist. say to place #1 wire on the first post to the right of the battery connection. Problem is it depends on how you look at cap to which one is to the right. The tab under the cap on the left side of this pic is a "short" tab and the one to the right is a "long" tab. I know these tab lengths have something to do with the "odd fire" ignition" I have tried it both ways and it will run on either side. Currently I have #1 on the "right" side of the battery connection but I am getting backfires as I run up to around 2000 rpm. My timing is set at 8 degrees advanced before vacuum advance kicks in. The motor is timed correctly and carb is adjusted to "lean" idle as per manual. Any advise would be very much appreciated.

Where does Number One Go Post #34 has a good pic and what I've used for years. The short post is VERY important to get right.
